How do I deep clean a 1958 Gillette

Gentlemen

I just acquired a “new” 1958 Gillette Flare Tip. It’s in decent shape, but I want to clean off the soap scum and disinfect it. What’s the best method to clean it? (If you suggest I take it apart, I’ll need detailed instruction)

In terms of disinfecting, I plan to use alcohol, because I don’t have barbisol.

1. Scrubbing Bubbles (no bleach). Then
2. Dawn dishwashing soap/hot water bath. Then
3. Another Dawn bath and clean it with a soft toothbrush.

No germs will survive all of that, and you’ll enjoy the shiny razor.

Looks in great shape. So maybe a dawn scrub and some scrubbing bubbles. Don't freak out about germs.

I’m not going to. I don’t have scrubbing bubbles, but used a “green” version of no bleach cleaner. Next week the dawn bath

This is what I have done with a batch recently. Maybe not the best method.
-Boiled razors in water for 5-10 minutes-loosens soap scum.
-scrubbed with soft tooth brush with dawn dish soap in warm water. ( used nitrile gloves)
-Quick boil 2nd time 2-3 minutes.
-scrubbed with soft tooth brush and soap 2nd time, rinsed with clean water.
-plunked razor in 99% isopropyl alcohol 5-10 min, great stuff for removing germs and water.
Good to go after that!

There’s no ‘cap’ on superspeeds...it’s perfect as it is!

Thanks. Can’t wait to use it. Am I correct that this is a mild razor? I only have experience using a Rockwell 2c.

I might be wrong but I thought the '58 Super Speeds had the vertical lines only on the handle (known as the '58 TV Special), or were there also '58s with the regular handle too?

That is a beautiful Flare Tip. I have a D1/1958, great shaver. Fairly mild, but less so than my M1/1967 Black Handle.

More than one quarter -- D-1, D-2, D-3 in my collection with the different knurling. And let us not forget the 1954 TV Specials, distinguished by the case only as the razor seems unchanged from the norm.

But alas, we stray from the topic.
