Yes, your creams certainly bump up that average. The soft soap cost per shave actually seam conservative in comparison.
Turns out the expensive hard soaps are not always that expensive when priced on a per shave basis, but the expensive creams are really expensive!
I hope to start 100g of MdC on December 01. Looking forward to seeing how that one plays out.

I was hopeful to see some MdC stats as well since folks think it is insanely overpriced; however, I hear it lasts a really long time. I'm curious if the longevity makes it a viable candidate especially since many "lower cost" (i.e., lower initial purchase price) soaps seem to have a higher cost per shave.

My numbers did not include shipping the MdC, IIRC the cost per shave with shipping was around 35 cents and I used 1.4 grams per shave with a Chubby 1. So no, the cost per shave is not that much different from other high end soaps.
Looking at the data, am I seeing that creams are generally more expensive per use than soaps? I didn't do any creams but did find the hard soaps more cost-efficient in general.

My guess on MdC (from my 3017 thread), is that you're using more than you think you are, and that it's likely the high volume of soap that makes it appear to last a long time. I could be wrong, but 1.5-2.0 grams per shave would be my expectation.
I've also heard often that MdC is supposed to last longer somehow, but usually that claim is made without enough comparison stats for my liking. From what little I have seen from tracking, MdC doesn't last any longer than other hard soaps.
So, if the 200g glass jar costs $70 and usage rate is between 1g to 2g per shave, the cost is around 35c to 70c per shave. If you end up paying $20 or more on shipping, that cost increases to between 45c to 90c per shave.
Some may use less soap, other could use more. But, I don't think you should bank on using MdC any slower than what you would use say Tabac or an AoS soap.

My last order contained a jar of fougere at $42. Their price on the website ncludes VAT (about 15%) until you log into an account outside the EU. Shipping one jar has never been the most efficient, but a jar would likely end up at around $51 shipped from France to the U.S. based on the rate I paid.

This confirms my thinking that the AOS soaps are no more costly than the RazoRock soaps. Yet one is considered a great value while the other way overpriced. The longevity has to be taken into consideration when you purchase a soap to really know if it was a good deal or not.
Nice to see the breakdown of those soaps and finally someone who beat out my $0.98.
I beat you twice! Also, there is no reason to drop $50 on Boellis Panama 1924. It's no better than Cella.

Great thread Jim. If nothing else it helps new members who are sometimes overwhelmed at the prices of good shave lathers. I was struck by it as well when I first started and only after months did it dawn on me one day that for the most part, shaving in and of itself is cheaper than dirt. Now lets not get started on the ancillary items such as brushes, custom knives, etc. Oh no, we won't go there! But this thread amply demonstrates that the reasons many of us got into this habit are still valid. When it comes to shaving it is still much cheaper than cartridges and Edge gel. Me? I quit justifying any of this years ago. My wife still gives the 'look' to me once in awhile.
This thread is excellent! Load heavy because soap is cheap and now we can prove it.
To clarify, I 3017'ed a tub of AoS cream. I do have an AoS Sandalwood soap puck that I will get to sooner or later. It's rather hard so I suspect that I will get a significant number of shaves from it.
After seeing the consumption rate of others, it seems that my rate is fairly low especially for creams.

When I extrapolate the shaves from a 2.25fl oz travel can to a 10oz normal can that costs $2, I get $0.035/shave
I'm sure not everyone will enjoy using Barbasol, but for me, the shaves were good. Not as great as I get with a soap, mind you, but good solid shaves.
