There is a litlte mom and pop place outside of Spencer if your out that way. I wish I could remember the name as I am sure "a little mom and pop place" isn't helping you out much...
Hog Heaven closed back several years ago. However, they did have excellent Lexington style (vinegar based - Eastern NC Style) barbecue!
Old Hickory House is the epitome example of Carolina style (Western NC - tomato based) barbecue and nothing like Memphis (Dry Rubbed) or Georgia style (Vinegar based).
I think you should grill a tri-tip this weekend and post pictures!!

I barely remembered to take a picture before it all disappeared. Tri tip on a crusty roll with grilled peppers and onions!

Well Gents,
Just got back to San Diego last night after about 2 weeks in North and South Carolina. Unfortunately it was turned out to be pretty much all work and very little play. I did get to Outlaw BBQ and it was outstanding. I am headed back to SC next week for a couple more weeks so I am hoping I get to try a few more places.
So far, the new job is going well and I think I am going to like living in SC once I get the family all settled.
Thanks again for all the suggestions.
John, I'm glad you found the Brunswick Stew at Hickory House to be excellent. I'll sometimes go there just to have that and and garlic bread. I've tried a few times to create that brunswick stew at home to no avail.
Let us know your thoughts on Mac's Speed Shop. If you get the Mac Daddy, I hope you take a wheelbarrow; you'll be so full, you have to be carried out! But, man is it GOOD!!!
If you would like to hook up to hit the fish camps, let me know. I've been revisiting several in Gaston County over the past month. Hey, you started this thread asking about food around here. Losing weight was a futile effort!
