What's new

Post your local/flea market stone scores. (There's none left. Tim found them all.)

I'm not sure but i think it's Dalmore Blue.
Bought it from UK, with wooden box.
Very dirty, used with oil.
I'll try it tomorrow.

Very nice! I too would put money on you being correct there, pretty one too.

They degrease relatively easily - much, much easier than Hindos for instance.

I'll kick it off with this box i grabbed up yesterday.....30 bucks at the local thrift shop.... Windsor brand looks like they run 120 ish online definitely brought a little extra organization to my setup. And looks nicer in the house that my previous multi ammo can setup so the Ms digs it too. The upper drawers fit straights and smaller hones perfectly the top and lower two accommodate larger stones easily AND I've still got space to fill. Top lock is a joke but the lower one works well.

Show me some stuff that y'all have repurposed for the hobby... or random sweet scores that now reside in your den or honing area.

Great score. Those are so handy for our hobby (and many others).

You might like this thread. Lots of good local finds.

Rose to the occasion
Man, I've been thinking along those lines myself. I've always wanted a box like that for my goodies. I have a 40+ year old Kennedy box at work but I've always wanted a wood box for certain guns, knives and hones. Nice score!!

"Look what I found"
A mixed lot from several markets this past weekend. My favorite so far is a 8” Coticule mounted in a paddle. A 8” I thought was a Hindostan but once out of its base, now not sure. A 8” mystery rock. A 5” Translucent with nice coloring, see what there after a dip in the dip. Lastly a 6” Washita that had a surprise. Once out of its base, a brown label Norton #1 was in the sunlight for the first time in a long time. Nice haul

Found this small stone. Not a clue as to what it could be. Size 3-1/8”x2”x1-1/2”. SG is 2.557.

I am cleaning it up now. Will Lapp the top to see what comes through.

Thanks @cotedupy, I finally get to use that coti slurry stone you sent me on a coti.

Now all I need is the shipping container with all my belongings to hurry up and arrive.

Ha... I'd actually forgotten I'd slung you a coti slurry stone tbh. That'll be well handy for preserving the life of the main one! :)

I wish I could find a finishing stone in the wild. I have some cheap synthetics of other grits but I have NO stone that would be a finisher.... Maybe one day I will get a finishing stone so I might can get my straights sharp...

Keep looking. Razors finishers are actually a dime a dozen as far as natural stones go. Lots of different stones are fine enough to finish a razor. Natural bevel setters worth a damn are the rarity.
