A few other threads come to mind. @FarmerTan has one about shaving like his grandpa.
This thread helps me in the same way. Plus it gives me some insight into the characters of other B&Bers.
And a chance to reflect on the upsides of my own character.
And I can banter with @FarmerTan. That reminds me that I don't live in the midwest anymore, that the snow here generally stays in the mountains where it belongs, at angles suitable for skiing, and THAT MAKES ME HAPPY!
I admire birders who are good enough to do the counts, my mother-in-law is one such. Birding is a very big interest for her. After retirement, she did a long online study program with Cornell.
Do you regularly count for Cornell? I was aware of the Audubon New Year's count, I would like to find out more about Cornell's counts.
Well, not counting birds makes me happy! Oh, I love calling to them, and having them call back, but dyslexia and ADHD do not make for a good counter.
You have no IDEA how many times I was called out on strikes because I lost the count!
I need to update that!
My family is certain I'm never going to get around to my memoirs, so maybe that'll have to do.
Honestly, if I ever do write my life down it'll be like James Herriot, and I'll have to call it Fiction, 'cuz even I don't believe half of it...
Thursday is breakfast with friends. We’ve known each other since ‘66. There were six of us. Now four.
A few weeks ago we took our standard poodle to the vet because we noticed that her eyes looked cloudy. The vet thought she had cataracts and thought she would go blind in a year. Yesterday we took her to an eye specialist for pets (yes there is a vet that specializes in eye problems) and after a very thorough exam, the vet said her eyes are normal. Many poodles, she said, have a hereditary issue where the iris of their eyes becomes tiny and the pupils expand and give the appearance of having cataracts or glaucoma. This would fool most vets who don't have extensive experience with poodles.
I hadn’t thought of it as sad. We four are so happy to be again meeting after a forced hiatus because of COVID. Our other brothers are still with us in our hearts.
I count using eBird on my phone and iPad. When you finish counting, you hit the submit button and your counts go to Cornell.
Went to pickup shoes from a shoe repair place. The ancient African-American proprietor (with obvious glaucoma) asked me to wait while he finished a pair of my shoes. So old school sitting there - no sign of a computer, old boxes of deadstock church ladies shoes everywhere. An old lady came in and bought a shoe horn. I felt strangely untroubled for a moment. After a half hour wait he told me I’d have to come back another day for one pair, hell, I’m ready to move in.
Amen. They may have a seat at the Best Place reserved for y'all!
For no real reason at all, I bought two Hawaiian shirts from Amazon, and they were delivered today. They look and feel great, better than I expected. A small thing, but very pleasing. Best friend's birthday party tomorrow; which shirt will I wear?

I don't know why I did it but I just pulled the pin on two Cadman Bengall SR's. The vendor knows nothing about SR's and these photos are all I have to go on. My research shows that they are probably from the early 1900's. They should arrive within a couple of weeks. Should be interesting...
