What's new

Safety Razor Acquisition Thread.

Decided to get a pre-war tech since I saw one on eBay and heard it's great, now I have 3 razors and my mom is concerned. Tried it today and I think I'll be using this for a while. It shaved well with a feather blade & Etherea soap:

1/5 known to exist... silver plated New Deluxe President! Got lucky to find this deep diving razor lots on the gold old ‘bay. I can’t wait to get it replated just hope the details don’t get too lost, already well worn off as is
Was this in a lot of two out of Argentina?

Hey guys I picked up this Super-speed on eBay US for only £15 with the case and dispenser... The seller combined postage with the Gillette adjustables I purchased from them at the same time (photos of those will be shared later)

The superspeed seems a little odd to be as it looks like maybe a 40's SS but in a 50s blue tip SS case, is that right or is it actually a matching set??

1951 Gillette USA Aristocrat with case and unopened pack of blades

The plating on the razor has survived pretty well considering the velvet flocking has long disintegrated and the razor head has been resting against bare metal. TTO doors open evenly and blade gaps look good too

Sadly the set is missing the original beige blade dispenser and the box is in pretty poor condition. Thinking it would it be worth re-flocking the velvet and re-glueing the silk plaque onto the inside of the lid. For now I have taken the razor out of the case for storage.

I bought it to be a user and it definitely is that... Not bad for a 70 year old razor

I'm recently vaccinated so I decided to brave the pandemic and check out my favorite Sunday flea market after a year of abstinence. I was pretty pleased with the results. In addition to a couple of nice brushes (which will be restored with new knots), I landed two nice DE razors. The first was a complete WW1 Gillette U.S Service Set in excellent condition. The only real wear is the printing on the inside lining. Even the mirror is clean, there are no handle splits, and it has a full case of what looks like the original blades.

I'll post the second razor in the following post.

The second is a Gillette Milord. I'm not sure of the date, but it's pre-1947 since the center bar is unnotched. There's some plating wear (the underlying copper/brass is showing through in spots) but it cleaned up nicely and gave a very fine two-pass shave this morning.

Always wanted a war issue khaki set, and got one.
The mirror looked totally beat, but mothers aluminum wheel polish brought it and the thumb tack back to like new.
No "property us army" stamp on the base plate, but I don't believe they all had it...I also read that if you enlisted they gave you a list to bring with the razor on it. If drafted you got the full set... anyone care to chime in on that one?

That case AFAIK, started in 1950 with V3 SuperSpeed. Could be possible if your 40s style was made just before it. Gillette wasted nothing. This case works with all versions of the black tip SS. The Blue tip has a powder blue case.
