Orient Mako II or Ray.
Thats nice, no thats very nice and a steel at £188 sterling.
Another good choice. I have a Mako XL in green and it is an excellent watch.
Timex Expedition.
I wear one all day everyday whether I'm drywalling, tiling, demolition etc... it just doesn't matter.

Casio DW5600. It's the square G-shock, so not as big and bulky as others. If you want analog, take a look at Vaer. 100m water resistance, screw down crown, sapphire crystal, comes in both automatic and quartz.
I think Orient gives high value for the dollar. I have three, the Mako 2, Surveyor, and this Polaris GMT.
For an entry level Automatic Orients are really hard to beat
for low maintenance it’s the Eco Drive.
A real beater watch would be a Timex sports model in stainless steel.
For a dressier beater watch, I like my Citizen Eco-Drive quite a lot. I have never had to replace a battery, which is a useful feature. The leather band was replaced with something nicer, though.

Go to walmart and get the watch you like best for under $30.
