Safety Razor Acquisition Thread.

If I am not mistaken, that looks to be a rebadged version of the stubby razor. Sells on eBay for about 10 dollars under various brands, with 50 free blades. Stainless steel handle (low quality steel), Zamak generic De89 kind of head. They just put their logo on it and are asking for 4 times it's actual value.

Slays On Fleek - For Rizz
This engraved 1915 single ring set arrived recently (Soap and brush included). At least there is no question that the razor is original to the case 😄. Researching Percy W. Babcock (1863-1950), he is the only person with this name on US census for the last 100+ years. He is also one of the original 40 pharmacist/store owners who formed the Rexall cooperation back in 1903.
That is an epic find. Congrats

Superb razor! :)

Most of my collection consists of vintage Gillettes but I've had my eye on the Karve CB for a while. I'm Canadian as well so Christmas and the pandemic seemed like a good time to support a "local" business and I pulled the trigger recently on their brass razor.

I enjoy mild razors normally so I chose the B solid bar plate and also additionally ordered the A open comb.

I really love this razor - the craftsmanship is impeccable, it looks great, and I'm getting really fantastic shaves from both plates. Couldn't be happier with this purchase.

This weeks acquisition is a nice little 1909 Single Ring from Paris. The Kirby, Beard and Company embossed in gold on the top is what peaked my interest originally. The "no made in" or diamond emblem on the head also is a plus.

Some times ago I found an abc pocket edition from kirby. my set is a B serie (1910 I think) with GinD stamp. In this case the "Kirby Beard etc" written is on the inner liner.
Kirby is known as a Gillette reseller but gillette sets with the Kirby logo are not so common to find.

Thank you. Speaking with someone else who also has the same set, but from 1907, theirs does not have the G & D stamp either. I've been reading here and through different other sources to try and find any details of what the France factory was producing at that time. I could see the pockets having the stamp, as they were produced either in the US or Canada.. Regardless, of the Kirby, Beard and Co inside, your pocket set is exquisite with the leather wrap. Thanks for sharing it.

GinD stamp seems to be a sort of legal requirement for all the plated razors imported in France. I don't know when they started using it but I have a lot of razors with this stamp and actually I aquired most of them un France. It was used also for razors made in england for the french market.
A star stamp it's also generally related to italian or spanish market but in this particular case I'm not so sure about its actual meaning.
I too would like to learn something more about gillette plants in France but GinD it's only seen on imported razor.
ciao,
andy
