What's new

I see a humidor in my future

Got a break with no rain and was able to plane and rough cut the rest of the cedar. In the oven at 180 degrees for a few hours. I don’t want my spanish cedar spotting and sticking to my cigars.

Mixing up some shellac for the inside to seal the humidor before I install the cedar. Haven’t decided if I’m going to use shellac or tung oil on the outside yet.

Some dry fitting and adjustments with some assistance from my Japanese planes.

Padauk is an awesome looking wood (it does darken more to a brownish colour over time) and it’s easy to work with but man does it make a mess. Neon orange sawdust everywhere.

Managed to get a bit of work in on the humidor today. First photo is where I started this morning.

Cut of the door, added some cedar and some padauk ribbon. The recess on the right is for the piano hinge. This photo, the drawer is open. The bottom of the top shelf is flush with the door frame (where the glass starts) and is slatted to hold boveda packs. The bottom of the drawer is also flush with the frame and the space underneath is also for boveda packs. There is about 7/8” clear along the whole back and slightly more along the front for air movement. The lips at the bottom of the display shelves are about 2”. The whole unit is about 17”x31”.

Door on. (Just on the 3/8” proud cedar rim, hinge isn’t installed yet)

Same photo but on angle to show the padauk ribbon detail. Also picked up the glass today. This is gonna look great once I start finishing it and add the lighting.

Nice! The attention to detail is superb.

Looks like you are going to store the cigars upright?

Thanks. Yes, the cigars will be upright except for any in the drawer. Each shelf will hold about 70 (40 ring gauge at 3 layers deep) cigars or less larger diameter. The height can accommodate in excess of 8”.

Wow beautiful work. Saw this thread earlier and didn’t read it, just assumed you got any old humidor. I stand corrected. This is some amazing work.

3 coats of tung oil and waxed. Ready to start finishing her up.

Mounted to the wall. Pay no attention to the bald guy taking the picture.

The lighting on the inside of the door. Remote controlled of course.

Wow! That looks amazing! Nice work. :thumbup1:

One item of concern, have you checked to see if the lights emit heat within the humidor?

Congrats, well done..
If I did that, the wind could blow thru it...
Are you intending to put in a small cpu fan to circulate the air? Or do you think it will hold just fine?
