The 2015 Badger & Blade Awards – Shoes

2015 Winner – Shoes

Salvatore Ferragamo Party Loafers $680

Newsflash, these are terribly expensive Italian velvet loafers – so hold back the pejorative comments, they’re not supposed to be practical. Unlike last years winner these are not designed to last decades and do so in style – these are all about ambiance and are designed to make a unique statement. They’re also deceptively comfortable, in fact, one of the most comfortable pairs of shoes I’ve worn.

shoes2They add sophistication and elegance to denim in a manner few shoes can rival, they truly look like a million bucks. Have you ever worn a pair of shoes people notice and actually talk to you about? Can you imagine a pair of shoes that nearly every other time you wear them; you’ll be approached by a well-dressed man or woman and complimented? These Salvatore Ferragamo’s will really turn heads and start conversations, but attention is not all they’re about.

shoes3Velvet loafers are the only style of shoe that can look at home in Jeans, Chinos, Slacks and a Tuxedo and leap out of each with authority. I’ve worn these quite a bit and in some rough conditions, and I’ve been surprised at how well they’ve held up. Incredible comfort, stunning looks, unique and can be worn with just about anything… there’s your 2015 winner.

  1. Stunning looks. You’ll never blend into a crowd when you’re wearing these beauties.
  2. A solid 9 out of 10.
  3. Bear with me on this one. While they’re velvet and north of $600 (but can be found on sale for $400 from time to time) they go with almost any clean/professional outfit and don’t merely hang on for the ride, these define your look.
  4. No need to polish, and they’re generally easy to care for, provided you don’t do anything foolish to them.

  1. Price – and no, they don’t come with a free Italian sports car.
  2. Spill potential. Cleaning some milkshake off of these would be unpleasant to say the least.
  3. While some may consider this a good thing, I find it a bit overwhelming. I’m generally low key and these shoes are anything but. Go to an airport, and you’ll get asked about these shoes at least two or three times, usually by attractive women. Ok… I don’t mind that part much 😉
