Oh, by the way, Adam, Jesse (soapbox) is my acting Vice Czar. You may wish to pay him the proper respect.

Oh, well in that case....
Wow! That is some tv you've got there! You must be some sort of electronic genius or something!
Nice to meet you, Mr. Vice Czar. I'm Adam (aka "Tiny", apparently). I'm Matt's new Apprentice Assistant Vice Jester.

I'm only *acting* Vice Czar though, keeping Limecat's seat warm for him. So save the grovelling for Rich.

 Aye-aye.
All cheddar aside, though, that is some pretty serious work on that jumbo tron thing. Are you a programmer or something by trade?

Yeah, I'm a pretty big nerd. My PhD is in Political Science, but to answer the questions in my dissertation, I wrote 5000 lines of code (in four languages) and spent three years building a data set and running statistics on it.
Since nobody can read big columns of numbers very well, I also wrote some code to make pretty graphs and pictures that convey the results a lot more usefully, and that "data visualization" got me this job, which is pretty cool! I am creating a "data visualization center" at the University of North Texas. It has been consuming a lot of time lately, and the results are pretty neat, but the whole thing still doesn't work very well. Yet.
Anyway, yeah, I'm a big nerd. However: Lou still gets the nod as "nerdliest references guy", and wherever Chip is, he's a better programmer than I am (I've seen his work), and Rich is a Linux guru, so I feel like I'm in good geek company here.
(yeah, this is probably the wrong thread for nerd discussion, but when does that stop us?)

Haha. Why, thank you. Nice to meet you as well. Just think, if it weren't for nerds/geeks (or however you computer genius guys like to be referred to; is there a 'politically correct' term for y'all?), we probably wouldn't have had this chance to meet, and the Czardom might not exist .
Pretty impressive stride to go from political science to creating the greatest football viewing paraphernalia known to the modern world.

If only there was a coax cable jack in my lab (of course, there's ESPN 360, but that's hardly the same as High Def!)

I like where your head's at, my friend! I'm a parks, leisure, tourism guy, myself (though a long way from a PhD); perhaps we could collaborate to study the effects of technology on sports/leisure.

The new Cowboys Stadium screen would be a better choice (and I'm not even a Cowboys fan, really). I have more pixels (a LOT more), but high-def is still impressive:
- Scoreboard / Video Screen / Jerry-Tron Measurements: Largest high definition television screen in the world.
- Size: 160 feet by 72 feet | 49 meters by 22 meters | 11,520 square feet
- Resolution: equivalent to 1080p

Soapbox updates:
- WIFE PREGNANT, having a BOY in May 2010.
- Shave soap recipe refinement is going well; new testing pucks available soon, in Bayberry scent
- Passed my amateur radio (ham) license tests for Technician and General on the same day!
- The Great Big Screen works, but not very well. This has sucked up most of my time at work lately.
- I still love Linux, but it can be exhausting when you're trying to run 12 screens at once off of three rackmount workstations.
- Denton Texas continues to be great, and the house hasn't fallen down yet
- I've started using a straight on the weekends; thanks to Richmondesi and Mysterion for chatting about it with me
- I passed a point somewhat recently when I realized that I had made a complete transition to DE shaving -- it's no longer novel, it's just part of the daily ritual. And that's awesome.
- Of course, the straight shaving is awesome but I'm not very good yet, so there's lots of razor burn and some stubble here and there. I still like it.
So, what all have I missed?
|
1) That is awesome! Congratulations.
2) This is awesome too!
3) Congratulations here, too. I have considered doing this but I have too many hobbies for now.
4) I can't even imagine what all is involved in doing something like that.
5) Of course.
6) Lack of falling houses is a good thing. Glad you still like the area.
7) Straights are great and I owe a large part of my conversion to Paul as well. I went about two months using nothing but. That really forced me to get the hang of it. I have just went back to my SS just to work on technique, but revert to the straight still.
8) This is why we get AD's.
9) You'll get there. If you want to force it, I highly recommend the method of using nothing else for a month. Otherwise, enjoy your weekends.
Well, you met Adam. My little brother, Skklog, joined and then brought in his wife, Minxy. That covers new members. Other than that, you have a lot of catch up to do.
