The HD slant is a great razor. I don't know why so many people are scared of them. They are not very hard to use if you follow the basic DE rules. e.g., no pressure, lather well, etc

How did you get on with the slant. compared to the futur. I have a futur at the moment. Although I'm a noob, I'm looking at getting either a HD (in a month) or slant once I get more proficient. I have a tough beard, which has amongst a few other things put me on a course for a fine shave via the DE route.

I never could make an HD work for me - too much irritation. However, a slant with a Feather blade is excellent! With a light touch on a Slant you really can't mess up. The slant is really intimidating to look at but a dream to shave with. If you have a tough beard I highly recommend it. Where the slant will bite you is if you carelessly let the blade make first contact with your skin. It will cut you. But if you pay attention to that you'll be fine. I know this razor isn't recommended for newbies but honestly I'm not sure why. I shaved for months with a Derby in an HD and nearly gave up. I tried many razors and blades along the way (12 razors and 6 different blades) before I settled on the slant and a feather.

Good luck!

Sorry, I just saw this. I really like the Slant. I find the Slant to give me an equally close shave as the Futur. The results seem to last longer with the Futur though--by 5 oclock on Slant days, there is some real stubble.

However, the Slant is easier to shave my neck with no irriation, and the mustache area.

It's hard to get used to something so small compared to the Futur, but it's not that difficult.

Bottom line, I love both these razors and am glad to have a hardware rotation now too.

I'd go for the Slant--it looks great in gold!

Cheers for that info National Razor. I'd be interested to see if you get better (5 o'clock shadow) at a later time as you get more familiar with the slant. out of Interest, what number do you use your futur on?

I had it on 2, but I just switched it to 2.5 when I cleaned it today.

You're probably right about getting used to the slant. It's an awesome tool
