Merkur Slant?
I have been DE shaving for a couple of years now, alternating between a Merkur 38C and Gillette super speed. I am looking for something new to try and wondered how different is to to shave with a Merkur slant. I am also looking at the Merkur open comb razor which may be a more intermediate step. Any thoughts?

Shaving with a Slant is no different than shaving with a regular DE. A Slant's head twists the blade, so it cuts at a more aggressive angle, but you use the razor normally. It's the best DE razor I've ever used, IMO. And it shouldn't be feared even for relative newbies.
The Merkur open combs are a more intermediate step, but the teeth are short and it's not much different than using a closed comb. The open comb means that the blade just gets closer to the hair whereas the straight bar flattens the hair down. The Slant presents the blade totally open, and IMO maximizes the cutting action of the edge.

+1 you would need to try a slant and open comb!

The slant was the first razor that I was able to use 'zero' pressure without feeling I needed any... get a slant and you won't regret it.

Slant is a fine razor, and nothing to worry about.
I'd put it about mid-range choice in my arsenal.

Just be careful if you have moles on your face like I do. The Slant can take most of them off before you even know it. Voice of experience...

I bought my slant about three months ago and I can't put it down. The best DE shave I have ever experienced. I dusted off my Fatboy over the weekend and used it but I was back to the slant today. My other razors are collecting dust.
The slant looks scary but it operates like any other DE.

I just started with a vintage slant within the last week and love it. I really like open combs as well. It's too early for me to say which I like more but it is sure fun trying to figure it out.

I have a vintage Hoffritz slant. It's especially effective with a few day's beard growth.

Received my Merkur 39 C Slant Seldgehammer today, and it was a beauty, very good feeling in the hand and perfect finish. Loaded the Sledgehammer with a new Feather blade, made a brilliant lather with my Fitjarsoap Amber and went to work. Just WOW, no pressure used, it felt like it was not shaving at all, but when I touched my skin it was clean as a baby butt, hehe. This razor is great. Have used a 38 C until now, and with the 39 C slant I feel that I don`t need any more DE`s (for a long time..)

These posts are tempting me to dump more money into my shaving routine.

The Merkur 1904 Replica open comb razor is my favorite. The Slant doesn't work well for me with Feather blades, and I haven't tried Derby or Gillette Platinums in it. Might need to get the West Coast Shaving "Everything" sampler one day and try everything.
Well, the slant doesn't work well on my neck. Works great on my cheeks. After some more play, I'll sterilize it and sell it.

This almost sounds as if I posted it. I didn't have good luck with the slant either. Now the open comb, that one gives me a better shave than any slant, and I love the thinner head on it. The 1904 is my go to razor, and I have it in both safety bar and open comb. If I have a 3 day or more growth of beard I use the open comb for the first pass, and then the safety bar for my second pass and any clean-up.
