Default Rooney 2/1 has arrived!

I got a new Rooney 2/1 Super from Jim at Vintageblades!

I shaved with it once so far and here is my report:

The brush looks good. Nice handle, looks much better in person than in pics.
The hair is soft but with good backbone or stiffness.

I started with a soap (CADE) and this thing works great. The dense and stiff hair pulled soap from the puck with ease paving the way for great lather.

I am surprised by its size though. This brush is SMALL, IMO. I selected it due to the immense popularity of the 1/1 and 3/1's. I guess I am just a bigger brush kind of person. Jim actually recommended the 3/2 to me based on our discussion of usage and preferences and he was right. I guess I should have listened to the "pro."

All in all, the Rooney is fabulous. The hair is fantastic and lathers like a champ. I'm gonna stick with it for a while (1 shave is not enough to get to know the brush) and see if the size is right, otherwise I will look into a 3/2 for Christmas

Used a 2/1 Super this morning as well. Works great with soaps and looks good as well

IMHO there isn't much a larger brush will do for you

Give it a month to bloom. Mine seemed small at first, but once it breaks in, it grows to a much larger "effective" size.

You are correct, a larger one won't "do" anything more, it is a matter of feel I guess. I'll wait and see if I get used to it!

I thought I should chime in as I just got my Rooney from Jim as well. I called him wanting the Ali Baba (figured it would be a good compliment to my name) and he actually recommended the 3/1. After some more talking, I told him I don't really care for the tiny handles since I have bigger hands and he said he actually liked the handle better on the 3/2 anyway, so to go with that.

I thought it was rather awesome of him to talk me into a 3/2 from a Heritage line brush considering that is basically a "down sell" and something not very many people do. He definitely knows his stuff and I am as pleased with the purchase experience through Jim as I am in the brush itself.

Shave #2 just completed. I used the Rooney on my newly received jar of Tabac.

It did bloom and felt larger. The brush feels "accurate," now I know why people like it for face lathering. Since the brush has good backbone, the hairs don't splay and flatten out into a big pancake on the face, it keeps its shape so it is easier to control. The tips are extremely soft making the lathering experience feel luxurious. I still feel the brush is somewhat small.

The thing that most impresses me is the handle quality! The shape and finish feels GOOD in my hands. Both the knot and handle exude quality.

Sorry...no pics yet....work, 2-yr old, and newborn barely leave enough time for shaving itself!
