Hi i have a dovo hanging strop to which i applied dovo green paste before realising it was far to coarse for my needs at 6 micron. Does anybody know any ways to remove strop paste from a strop so i may salvage it or is that the end of my strop?
Thanks

I don't know what carrier material Dovo uses, but you could try rubbing alcohol. I have used that before to remove chrome ox and it works pretty good.
The worst thing it would do would be to dry out your strop, heck just put some neatsfoot oil on it after it's cleaned. I'm no leathersmith though, so ymmv.

You could try saddle soap however whatever you use you wil never get everything off. Some of the grit just embeds itself into the leather. Whether its enough to affect its usefulness I don't know. I guess if you repasted it with a coarser paste it would be ok after cleaning. Personally I would just get another strop.

Thanks guys thats what i thought that their would still always be some left in the strop even if all the visible paste was gone. Im gonna get a tony miller paddle when i have the cash so until then ill make do with my standard leather/linen strop. Next time ill do my research before i go appyling pastes:001_rolle

you could also use a pumice stone to buff the surface of the strop after cleaning it. That would remove most of the leather with the embedded media.
Some would get re-embedded but it's worth a try.
