I became a man 3 weeks ago when i started to use my first razor. Started shaving late when i was about 20 with an electric razor, didnt have much growing. Before then i used hair trimmers on my face and scissors, around the age of 14-16.

Now that i have started using a razor i feel like a proper man, before i felt like half-a-man.

My first experience of wet-shaving was while browsing my local pharmacy i was getting abit adventurous about which razor to try. At first glance i spoted the all common, all famouus (not), BIC razor with long orange handle and the single blade, a pack of 5 for only 50 pence. I know its reputation, read stories of how it 'tore peoples faces to shreds'. I even know someone who used to use it nearly everyday and there were cuts, nicks and blood everywhere on the face. Suprisingly, i discoverd BIC sensitive with pink handles with a reassuring protective guard, i didnt know they even existed. Maybe it was the day i was meant to try wet-shaving, so i bought a pack and and unlike the normal BIC disposable i was happy with my first shaving experience. No nicks or cuts, just some itchy razor rash the next day.

I enjoyed my time with BIC sensitive, now i've moved onto Gillette Blue II double blade twin razor. People say two blades give you a more cleaner shave with fewer strokes and less irritation. Suprisingly, i've been disappointed. I havent noticed much difference than shaving with a single blade except its more faster with two blades requiring half the time. I dont think two blades give any cleaner shaving than 1 blade. BIC sensitive gave me the perfect clean shave looking really clean and took almost 3 days for a stubble whereas with the gillette its 2 days. But that was my first try with 2 blades.

Anyway moving on, wanting to try the mach3, 5 and 8 blades and the wilkinson, cant afford the price of the replacable cartridges so im think of going down the DE route. My older generation still uses those and i always think... 'i wonder what its like to try one of those'.

Hi jaffacake welcome to B&B, it's good to have another Londoner on board. We're pretty friendly here so first names are generally used, what's yours?

If you move to a DE razor you'll not regret it. Ok, it can take some time getting your prep and technique right but the journey is well worthwhile. There's enormous experience on this forum so take advantage of it and ask loads of questions.

Hi My names Mike, as you know im a newbie, and thank you all for your warm welcome.

Although ive said i want to go the DE route, does the DE have a safety bar/guard? im the type that is impatient, wants to whip his stubble off and rush off to work after waking as late as possible in the morning. ? but then ive seen people using DE's and they seem appealing, bit like a...the art of shaving' with a DE'

(i never used razors before and im impressed no matter how hard i press with a disposable it wont cut me)

Then you may not like a DE--if you press hard you *will* get cut. But it will reward a gentle hand with a very smooth, close shave--one that you won't be likely to get with the disposable.

Mike,

Welcome to the madness. You'll find the once you get started, you won't want to rush the shave, but prolong and enjoy the different elements of the brush, the soap or cream, and that smooooooooth face you have at the end!

Kyle...you didn't know about the ladies? I heard you were sleeping with a "married" woman now!

Mike- If you want to shave as quickly and mindlessly as possible (with good results) try an injector. The learning curve is zero, and you can get a really fine shave from one.
DE's, on the other hand, take a light hand and a bit of concentration. When the muscle memory kicks in and it becomes second nature, many folks feel it provides the closest shave.

Try 'em all!

Indeed I am. I just didnt' realize we were telling everyone yet and was trying to put the cat back in the bag so to speak.

If you think this place is popular now, just wait until this news hits the streets.
