I've been shaving for about 20 years now and have always had poor results. My skin is very sensitive and I can cut myself easily with multi-blade razors as well as electric razors. I also get painful and ugly ingrown hairs constantly. The worst is when they get infected and then having to pull them out with tweezers.

I realize a lot of this is my fault from poor technique. I've read a lot online here and elsewhere and I'm going to change my routine big time. Tomorrow I should be getting a DE and all the other pieces of the puzzle, brush, soap, etc.

I don't want to get too emotional here but I almost cried when I read all the great information that you guys provide. For me this is the hope that I'll actually be able to leave my house looking well groomed. I'm an older single guy and getting ready for dates has always been daunting for me. I'm usually cut, bleeding, and with a horrible rash on my face. Not exactly what a woman wants to see picking her up at her place.

No one ever taught me how to shave as my dad was always busy working and I grew up in the era of multi-blade razors which I firmly believe to be the work of the devil. I can't remember a day that I haven't cut myself with one of those gizmos or left my neck with nasty red bumps.

Just wanted to say thanks for having such a great website and giving me hope that I'll be able to finally shave like a grown man for once in my life, and look good because of it. You guys are a great bunch. God grant me patience to learn the correct way.

Jim,

Welcome aboard, and thanks for the kind words!

Keep in mind that in the beginning, you still might bleed often and curse the razor, but know that if you stick with it, it will get better.

Glad you found us!

Hola

Nick is right the learning curve can be steep at first but the pursuit and rewards are well worth the efforts.

Welcome, Jim. You're right, this site is a great info source. Keep those tweezers handy, though. If you are like me, it seems every gray whisker is a potential ingrown...lol
Welcome aboard.

Welcome Jim,
It will be one epiphany after another and then... One day it all becomes boring, perfect, irritation-free shaves without razor bumps...:w00t:
Hope you master the techniques soon and get to be bored!

Welcome. It will take some time for you to perfect your technique and for your face to adapt, but the results will be well worth it. Feel free to ask questions.
