View Full Version : Method Shaving and traveling
For those of you who Method Shave exclusively (if there are any of you), what do you do when you travel? Do you lug all that stuff with you, or do you do something else instead? I have a business trip coming up, and I have been debating what to do. Thought I'd check here.

I've run across this problem too -- I've actually considered talking to Charles about making a travel kit. I just end up taking everything with me. On the bright side -- I guess -- is that it's basically all I need. The cube, paste, conditioner, and tonic is all you have to carry, and I'm sure you could get away with not taking the tonic for a few days.
If you were to carry the traditional wetshaving stuff, you'd take cream/soap, aftershave, and moisturizer, so I guess in the end it's not really that much worse. But I agree that it is tough.

They make specific travel stuff. If you travel a lot, they make badger brushes in a travel container and break-down DE razors, as well as smaller brushes and creams. Last time I travelled I didn't care much for a good shave. Now I do. I'd ziploc it but if i travelled a lot I would invest in good stuff.

I actually started to DE shave on a visit to mexico. I was trying to be old-school cool. Hemingway... Picasso... I was planing on staying in the country for 3 months and all i brought along was a brass gillette, burt bees shave soap & personna blades. I never practiced. I thought it would be easy; how hard could it be. Needless to say, I was baptized with blood. But on the cool note, I packed it all in a romeo & juliet cigar box. Once my future wife saw the kit, she swooned. And bay rum scent brought her close. We've been married for 4 years now.
Advice: Just make sure you check the bags with your supplies in them. The TSA will not allow DE on the plane.
Thanks for the replies, but I was mainly interested in method shaving and traveling. I know there are specific travel products by other manufacturers.

I method shave exclusively, and am also in the process of figuring out how to MS on the road. I talked to Charles about it, and the small plastic sample jars he uses hold less than 3oz., so they should get through screening. I'm planning on taking a third of a cube, and one round (depending on the humidity at destination), a sample jar with paste, another sample jar with finishing balm, and a sample jar with conditioner. Like LegalEagle mentioned, I think the tonic can probably stay home. I'm also considering chucking that plan and just packing full-size portions in my checked bag (that's where the DE blades will have to go, anyway).
The small plastic travel jars from the Container Store travel section work quite well and are clear. I have used a third of a cube or a well worn round in an appropriate sized container from the same source. For that one you may need to look in kitchen wares. If you are using a Shavemaster brush, you need to consider how to protect the wooden handle from abrasion. I tend to travel with a synthetic handle brush which fits in large pill type tube.
