Micron sandpaper or pasted strop?

I want to get a wide strop but I know I will need a pasted strop eventually too. So I was just going to get Tony's daily / pasted paddle but then I remembered that sandpaper comes in very fine grits. Finer than my 8K norton? Is this idea worth looking into?

Well, if you want to do touchup honing initially on the cheap sandpaper is the way to go however it's not the most convenient and down the road will probably cost more that buying a paddle with paste on it plus its much more convenient to just do a few strokes on the paddle then start with wet sandpaper which can be more messy. However it certainly can be done. Some guys just use newspaper also.
