View Full Version : axe body spray -- cheaper replacement?

So I started using Axe body spray a few years back.

I still use deodorant/anti-perspirant, but I use Axe as well. I guess its use is somewhat superfluous, but I love the way it smells.

But it is *very* expensive. The other brands don't seem to smell as good as the couple of Axe brands. Can someone recommend a cheaper alternative?

Axe is expensive? Last time I noticed it, it was only about $3.50 a can.

Is there another version of Axe that I'm not aware of you might be referring to?

Are we talking the cheap stuff (called Lynx over here) which you can get in all the supermarkets? Black can, recently started featuring a twistable top?

I stoped using Axe a while ago, much to the delight of most people around me :-)
If you check out some "real" colognes you'll probably find one you like as much as Axe, and while you may lay down $40-$120 initially the bottle will most likely last a year or more.
Plus you won't smell like a 15 year old ;-)
No offence intended...

I'm a teacher (7/8th grade) and in the afternoon I smell nothing but a mixtue of axe, cheap cologne (Aspen/Royal Copehagen), or Brut.. basically whatever the boys cheap allowances will buy them at Walgreens.. I always try to tell them.. just 2 sprays....:001_rolle

Anyways, +1 on using Cologne. There are tons of decants which can be bought for not alot of green. Find out what scents you like.. you will impress the ladies.. especially if you choose sophisticated cologne fragrances. :thumbup1:

Best of luck!

The only Axe I like is " UNLIMITED "

The other ones suck, but " UNLIMITED " is unique; oddly, it's not heir best-seller

Can't say I'm a big fan of Axe bodyspray myself, but if you still want to go that route I believe there's a spray called Bod that I recalled in my high school days. The bottle looked like a bottle of Windex and the bottles were huge. You might pay more for a bottle, but its probably cheaper on a price per ounce basis.

That being said, you should give some cologne a try. Although you may pay much more for a bottle. I find that a bottle of cologne can last me well over a year and a half. (I only use 1 spritz on my wrist and I'm good for the whole day)

Is this a joke?

$5 is *very* expensive?

*Nothing* is certainly cheaper, and you'll smell better wearing nothing than you will wearing Axe.

I'd second this. Have 2 or 3 in the cabinet now.

I couldn't stand the smell of it when I was 15...

But each person will have different things they like and don't like. If you like Axe, then by all means, go for it. Just please, wear it in moderation.

As for cheaper... I don't think it gets much cheaper. Maybe the Old Spice stuff that someone recommended. I actually got a bottle of that stuck to some deodorant I bought a couple of weeks ago. I don't care for the smell of it, but you may like it.

Hehe, oddly enough my girlfriend goes kind of nuts for the Old Spice Red Zone: Showtime scent that I got as a free sample one day walking around downtown. I use the body wash version of it

I got the After Hours scent with mine. I like the smell of the deodorant, hate the smell of the spray. Imagine that...

Immediately replace any product you use named Axe with either:

1. A shower.

2. A bath.

Both of which are cheap. Hell, if you steal a supply of soaps from a hotel, it's even cheaper. And still better than Axe.

Men are not supposed to smell of "body spray". The entire idea makes not only my skin crawl but my nose burn.

This rule should also apply to people under the age of 18, but there's no accounting for childish behavior.

Welcome to B&B, NJT ... :w00t:

As you may have gathered :001_rolle Axe bodyspray isn't all that highly thought of around here ... but trust me, the ribbing you're getting is all good-natured fun.

Aaah Ste-Catherine boulevard and the free samples....(and the hot women walking there don't hurt either:biggrin:)

I too love SHOWTIME; I have the Body Wash, Bodyspray and Deo stick of the Showtime line, but oddly the Bodywash smells different than the Body spray and Deo stick (I prefer the last 2)

Favorite Old Spice body washes :

-Fresh
-Pure Sport
-Classic

Favorite Old Spice Deo Sticks:

-Fresh
-Showtime

Favorite Old Spice body sprays:

-Showtime
-Pure SPort
-Classic

Only Axe scent I like (too bad it doesn't last long enough, compared to Old Spice) :

Unlimited (so underrated)

LOL...thanks to all who replied...there were some funny posts there.

Firstly, let me say that I called Axe expensive because I consider it to be in the same category as deodorant/antiperspirant.

Axe costs me anywhere from $4.39 to $4.99 whereas regular deodorant usually runs up to about $2.99 at its most expensive (and those bottles are twice the size of Axe).

Confuzius' reply made the most sense, which was to buy some real cologne, which, while more expensive, will probably last longer.

Thanks to all who replied!

Glad to help, a friend of mine works at a perfume/cologne boutique, just drop by a local one and ask questions, if it's a small place chances are the chick working there is bored out of her skull and will be more than pleased to go through a bunch of things with you.

Prior to finding this site and suffering from cologne AD I used Old Spice sprays. Now I certainly won't go back but I will admit that while wearing Old Spice sprays I was frequently complemented on smelling nice.

Since the switch to colognes, I continue to receive compliments (especially for Trumpers Spanish Leather), but no more than I received before. This is just to say use whatever you want. Just be careful not to overdue it with the sprays. Any colognes should just produce a hint of scent to those nearby and not overwhelm them and produce a need to pull out a gas-mask (often the case here with some women and their perfumes).

Affordable and you will have many adventures on your quest. The number one spot I would think is yard sales. The item in question, that you will be seeking high and low for... is.... HAI KARATE
Bring back some old school in the school. I am lazy but do a search for HAI KARATE and you will see the commercial. You will be like that guy in the teachers lounge. Dim the lights, put on some mood music and then... :yesnod:
Oh yeah.

njt, dude, look into sending some companies nice e-mails requesting samples. Go to higher-end department stores and test stuff you've heard about here and other ones, as well. This is almost free, so there's no way to be disappointed. I guarantee you'll find something you enjoy and that you'll want to purchase a full bottle of.

old spice original formula is great, it was what i turned to when i discovered axe was crap, but then slowly i moved on to neutral roller deodorant, nivea and a local brand called hidro genesse which is alum and aloe based, its good, it lasts all day and i dont stink,

btw, ever noticed that there are specific clothing or specific fabric that enhance BO ?

It's funny how Axe/Lynx and Old Spice are so different thought of around the world. Over here, both brands are kinda frown upon. But they're cheap, so they sell. Like a girls brand, called Date. Horrible stuff.

If you really need it to be cheaper. The dollar store by my house sells knock off cologne of polo, cool water, etc. Maybe not the best aproach but maybe better and cheaper than AXE.
