Very nice shave. I have to agree with Tye about soaps working better for me. I would have never believed this when I first started as I loved the creams. I still love the scents of the creams but the soaps give me a much better shave. I am so tempted to trade the 8 creams that I have.

weird combo everything seems to work fine.. what a great place B&B is this is like filling in a diary of your best shaves you can just look it up later. this wasnt my best shave ever but I forgot how great those Israeli are though Derby is sharper.
The Arko shave stick kicks Palmolive's for sure but smell is better of palmolive I would say you dont miss anything if you dont have this stick.

* Thanks to Michael (NMMB) for the Super-Max blades but without wishing to seem ungrateful I don't think I'll be using another. I have got to the stage that I can pick up almost any DE razor and get good results, I doubt this is the case with a Super-Max blade. The initial (with the grain) shave was great, no pulling or irritation at all, the next pass went ok (diagonally across the grain) a couple of weepers but noting too bad. At this point the blade appeared to be blunt, something like a Wilkinson after seven shaves. I went across the grain at 90 degrees from the last pass and I seemed to start pulling my face apart, weeper after weeper particularly in the areas under the corners of my mouth. I didn't bother with a T&C pass, my face was feeling pretty sore.

The alum block demonstrated how much damage I did, it stung like crazy initially, I applied some Skin Fod and even 10-15 minutes later my face hadn't recovered, It felt like pins being pushed into my face. I put the Nivea on next to stop this uncomfortable feeling, it sort of worked.

Blades selection is very subjective. What's good for me might be awful for someone else and I hope these blades suit someone, not me though!

I'll put these words into a review too.

I think this could be the perfect Newbie razor. the angle is pretty much built in, and it is almost impossible to cut yourself ( call me sick but I tried ) and I got zero.... I haven't been doing this long, but I'm already very satisfied with the results. My skin has never been happier. Too bad, I was hoping I'd get to (er, I mean *need* to) buy lots more products until I found the right combination. But I think I've got it.

My strategy might be unusual though. I do one pass S-N (in some areas, straight up... in others, diagonally upwards). Then I do touch-ups, usually around the jawline and left side of my chin (its harder to get a close shave there, for some reason).

Mainly, I've been keeping with this strategy because I'm already getting a very close shave with virtually zero nicks or irritation (as long as I'm paying attention). But also because the Taylor's Rose stings slightly if I do a second application. So, the idea of doing 3 or 4 passes doesn't seem necessary OR pleasant. To be fair, I don't have any other quality cream to compare it to yet...

So, I'm looking forward to a tub of Nancy Boy cream to get here so I can see how it feels compared with the Rose. :cool:

I'm not giving up on it yet Kyle. Yesterday, I was overly cautious becuase of the reputation it has. Today, I zipped it around at speed I'd never attempt with my Vision. My shave today was good, don't get me wrong, but I can get the same results with my long-handled classic, Futur, Vision, or Gillette super speed. I'll give it a few more days before passing judgement.

Interestingly enough, I've not yet used any of the four models of razors you have mentioned. My experience is limited to the HD, Progress, Slant Bar, Merkur Classic Open Comb, Gillette Adjustable, Gillette Fatboy, Aristocrat, and now Muhle-Pinsel Open Comb. While I find the HD, Fatboy, and Aristocrat to all provide superb results, the Slant regularly out performs them on closeness of shave. I'll be interested to hear how the rest of your "test" goes. God forbid, I may now have to purchase the four razors you mention.

I'm wearing it today, and I am amazed by how good this stuff it. So damn aristocratic and manly. Funny, early in my wet shaving career I got a sample of this stuff and hated it. Now.... heaven on earth.

I love the Arko! The smell isn't nearly as strong when it's lathered up; more of a clean, vaguely mentholated soapy smell. I actually shaved last night and overslept today (leaving no time for a shave) - but today's face is smoother than most days, and it's been 12 hours!

Yes, the new Feather may have had something to do with my BBS shave :). But the supreme lubricating capabilities of this Arko definitely helped!
