View Full Version : Blades
Obviously, different people have different experiences with different blades. I'm wondering with what blades you guys have had success while using Hydrolast products. I have tried both Feathers and Derbys as CAR has recommended. Just taking a poll. If you use Hydrolast products do you shave with:
a) Feather blades?
b) Derby blades?
c) Some other blades -- please specify
Any input would be helpful.
Thanks.

I just started using hydrolast products a couple weeks ago - I've been sticking pretty consistently with Feathers and Derby's. Today I tried a Personna and it didn't really do much for me, in fact the shave today yielded some irritation. At this point it may be my technique, but I think i'll be using either Feathers or Derby's exclusively from now on.

I've pretty much tried the range of what's available. I shave only with Feathers now. They seem to be the most consistent for me.

Method shaving requires a really sharp blade. This because the strokes in method shaving need to be long and quick. That's at least what I've learned from my experience. I've been using Derbys but I have a pack of feathers on its way.

When I began method shaving, I switched to Feathers and haven't looked back. When I was using traditional creams, I only used Derbys, but I've had great luck with Feathers & Hydrolast.

Why cork the feather? You are dulling the blade.

How many uses are you guys getting out of a Feather. Lately it seems I only use them once or twice.
Feathers all the way. I typically get 5-8 shaves out of a blade.

I cork the feather blade because i dont find that it dulls it at all, it hones it just right for me at least. A new feather blade generally irritates my skin a bit, and i get a better shave on the 3rd day or so. After reading about corking, I tried it and got the same results from a new blade. Ive tried Derbys and personas and merkurs and non give me the same results as a corked feather.
