View Full Version : Under-eye lotion?

Is there anything to these concoctions? I saw something on the shelf for $7 for a 0.5 oz bottle, which shocked me, but apparently a half ounce is supposed to last forever...
Does anyone use these and see good results, or is face lotion alone just as effective?

They usually use lighter creams that are more easily absorbed. Whether you think they're worth it is another matter. I use one of the l'oreal ones, cant remember off hand which, and it does last a long time. I doubt spending a fortune would make much difference compared to the cheaper ones.

how much is Preparation H? I know several people that use that under their eyes...sounds funny, but does the same job (eye "baggies")
my first time to hear of such odd practice was being backstage during beauty pageants in college - man, I miss that!

... . . .
umm, anyway, they'd use Prep. H for under their eyes, then we saw that on Miss Congeniality and my wife thought it was weird, but being already accustomed to it, it didn't shock me.
You're call, though, I reckon
Of course, this whole suggestion is a moot point if you're asking about it for another reason other than eye "baggies" :001_smile

Preparation H is Hydrocortizone cream, it just costs less than Hydrocortizone that's labeled as such. Around here, a tube of generic Prep H is $1.00 while a same-sized same-concentration tube of generic "Hydrocortizone cream" is $3.00.
I'd personally hesitate to apply topical steroids to my face.
The "under-eye" lotions I've seen contain Coenzyme Q10 (whatever that is) as opposed to Hydrocortizone.
And yes, it's the "eye baggies" that I'm looking to address. I suppose sleep is another possible answer, I just don't seem to find the time for that!

I hear ya on the sleep
The Prep H I would imagine, in the contexts that I became familiar with, would most likely be a short-term, time-to-time thing, probably not a everyday solution. But, like I said, I know a few folks who use it fairly often, and not a single hemorrhoid on their retina!

You may just be genetically apt to have them. I have been averaging about 10 hours of sleep per night for the last two weeks and still have them pretty bad.

Although, I've never been brave enough to put Preparation H around my eye area  I have heard that Conan O'Brien uses it on his face.
I think Coenzyme Q10 is for lightening dark circles rather than actually reducing under eye puffiness.

So your avatar ... that's not actually you?
I use Menaji 911, and it seems pretty good.

From what I have heard, the wrinkle-reducing ingredient is no longer in PH sold in the US. It is in the PH sold in Canada. Anyway...
My biggest reason for using eye gel/cream is not the way I look, but rather the way I feel when I use it. It makes my eyes feel lighter and more wide open, and makes me feel more awake. This actually lasts all day. I usually use Clinique for Men Eye Gel, though my next will be the l'Occitane Olive. Boots from Target is a good inexpensive one. And they do last a looong time.

BTW, don't just use it under the eye, use it above the eye as well (below the eyebrow).

Unfortunately no, but I have my aspirations  and if I keep my head high, but not so high as to be snooty, the main darkness, caused on me more by shadow formed by the puffy eyebags than anything else, is greatly lessened.

I agree. Decleor Contre Temps Stop Wrinkles Eye Contour works great but it's expensive.
According to Paula Begoun, product formulations for eye creams don't differ from those for face products. So, your regular face moisturizer is probably ok to use under your eyes.

Yeah, I fall into the camp of "it's all the same". Sometimes I use Neutorgena oil-free all over (neck to hairline); sometimes I just use the C&E aftershave balm all over.
Vain enough to be concerned about my looks, but too manly to have 85 different creams in my cabinet.

I use Billy Jealousy "Wipeout" eye cream. A little does go a long way and it seems to work fine. I had used Clarins before I picked this up and it also lasted forever.
FWIW I have a few different Billy Jealousy products and find them all to be outstanding.

Corn Huskers.
I've used it under my eyes for over a year and I don't have the lid luggage even though I only get at most 4 hours of sleep a night.

I've read before that the dark circles and bags are more a result of genetics than lack of sleep, etc. I don't know about all that, but when I first became interested in true wetshaving at TAOS, the man got me to sample the eye-gel. I didn't buy it at the time, but about 2 hours later on my drive home I glanced in the rear-view mirror. Holy crabapples, the stuff seemed to work. Maybe it was just my imagination, but I bought some. Ever since, the results haven't been as noticeable. But that was my experience, for what it's worth.
