Some gents use regular soap for shaving, others use shaving cream/soap for washing their face. Mama Bear recently advocated the latter use, saying that shaving soap is usually gentler than regular soap, because it is formulated to contain higher amounts of moisturizers. I went a step further and used shaving cream as a body soap in my morning shower.

I applied some Palmolive Original Shaving Cream (the European version with palm extract) to a pouf and showered away. It worked wonderfully! I have fairly dry skin, and I judge the moisturizing properties of soaps and body washes by how well water runs off my shoulders and how much itchiness there is after the shower. The Palmolive turned out to be more moisturizing than any high-end bath soap I have, including good olive-oil soaps and Mitchell's Woolfat soap, which so far have been the most moisturizing ones. There was no itchiness, which was a first for me, given the current dry climate.

Those are just initial observations; I will conduct some more thorough tests, but I wanted to mention this possibility right away. Perhaps, someone else has used shaving cream/soap in this way as well? I'd be happy to hear about that.

I do exactly the same thing, but with different products. I used up a bar or two of Olde Windsor shaving soap as well as a Williams or two in the shower. Worked great - no dry skin.

I have some old shaving cream in a pump bottle that I don't particularly like, that is I don't like it much for shaving. I use it as a hand soap and it is just great. I generally get painfully chapped hands in the winter, but not since I started using the shave cream.

Sometimes I use Method Bloq Citrus Leaf as a face wash; very gentle, is loaded with good stuff for dry skin.
KMF is not bad either

Another option would be to use superfatted or 'baby soap' in the shower. It really makes a difference.

I use Aleppo gold soap to bathe with. Amazing lather, performance and moisturizing. Plus it cleared up all my dry skin issues.
