I am curious as to what the difference is between the two.

Not sure it is standardized, but typically a cream is thicker than a lotion.

Lotion tends to be more liquid whereas cream is more dense.

It ain't necessarily so. Quite often a lotion is easier to absorb. You can have all of the same emollients in a cream and lotion, have one sit on the surface making you look greasy, the other absorbed into your skin (giving you a matte finish) benefitting your moisture level... :rolleyes:
