Evening gents. I received a nice package of goodies from QED this week and among them were two bath soaps. Some of you may or may not know that Charles has introduced a line of toiletries beyond the shave sticks, hydrosols, and a/s conditioners. He has added bath soaps to the line in addition to a few other items. I will speak only of the items I purchased and leave you to email QED and ask Charles for any information on the other items.
The order included the Texas Cedarwood a/s conditioner along with a cute little sample of the same product containing lemon peel essential oil. The first product I used this morning. As has been indicated elsewhere, a LITTLE amount of this is perfect. I did not anticipate nor find this to be a anti irritant or a firestopper for a bad shave. What it is, is a very light moisturiser that I found worked splendidly. At first I thought it may be a bit too heavy. I am usually suspicious of the white lotions and creams. Many are too heavy with a greasy feeling I can't get to go away. Perish the thought with this one. A pea sized amount was very sufficient for my beard area. A couple of hours later I actually added just a tiny amount more. I found that this absorbed in less than a minute and left my face with a matte look. Perfect. Again, go lightly with the application. A real winner and will likely curtail my use of Maleface moisturiser. The cedarwood EO is simply phenomenal. I expected a heavy, dry, cedar lumber type of aroma. This did not come across that way at all. The scent was "soft" for lack of a better word yet still with a mild authority that stayed close to the skin. I applied Woods of Windsor edt afterward and they mingled supremely. I'll give this one a few more tries before giving a genuine thumbs up or down. Initial reaction is very promising.
Now to the real jewel of this little extravaganza. When I correspond with QED I'm always asking about new products. Charles casually mentioned the new bath soaps and told me that one of them was named Bathtub Gin! Juniper EO, I just knew it! Yep, he confirmed it but told me it also had lemon and lime EO in it too. I got the two citrus notes immediately upon sticking my nose in the packaging. The juniper is more subdued than I would have thought but it's stout enough to make the blend of the three into something just wonderful.
Ah but there were TWO soaps in the box. I really flipped over the name of the first soap but when he dropped the name of the other, there was no way I was letting that package come to me unless both of those soaps were in there. Here it is; Casablanca. Oh yeah. Images of Bogie, fedoras, double breasted suits, white dinner jackets, sultry air, Moroccan spices, Claude Rains with his crisp uniform, exotic and mysterious women. You get the picture. The packaging lists EO's of frankincense, bergamot, clary sage & other essential oils.
I swear gents, you'll immediately conjure images of yourself standing on an open terrace at a oh so dimly lit nightclub. Neatly attired in dinner jacket, hair neatly groomed with Trumper pomade, Dunhill cigarette held deftly in the corner of your mouth whilst your cupped hand keeps the cool breeze of the Atlantic from extinguishing the flame from your Corona Old Boy lighter. As a light fog rolls in, you await her arrival. This stuff evokes such images in me. Charles told me why he chose these names and I couldn't agree more. This one is so dead on.
Here's some nitty gritty. Ingredient list goes thus; Coconut oil, glycerin, aloe juice, aqua, and a few others. While this should not be taken as a review, my initial impressions are very good. Lathers easily like most glycerin type soaps, easy on the skin, no perceived harshness, rinsed cleanly. As is always the case, ask what EO's are in the products. You never know what may disagree with your skin. Happily this one gave me zero trouble. I have already emailed and asked Charles to make an a/s splash with this EO combination. I told him I am first on the list if he ever does! Do yourselves a favour and email Charles and ask about these soaps. A mere $5.95 for a 5.2 oz. bar. A real bargain for EO soaps.
Regards, Todd
+1 got the Chocolate yes Chocolate and the Bath Tub Gin I am on the Chocolate now and initial impressions are the same as above good stuff. Love the Lemon Peel ASB Just tried to order talked to Charles will not be avaible for about ten days, It is very very nice.

Hi Don. Isn't that lemon peel a/s conditioner super? The Bathtub Gin soap will be used this morning. Charles just keeps knocking them out of the park with these EO combinations.

Hey Todd,
I become so frustrated with Charles not advertising his products that I started beating up on him whenever I reached him on the phone. As a concession to my verbal abuse (partial surrender?) he made up a list of the EO combinations that he has put into his new soaps.
Along with the EOs, he has these splendid writeups on the background of the name he has chosen and why this particular name earned this EO combination. I've taken the liberty to synopsize.
Here they are:
Apollo: ... the first "step for mankind" onto the moon. Take that giant step with Apollo cleansing bar, its stellar combination of Bergamot, Lavender, and Sweet Orange produce a scent that's out of this world.
Bathtub Gin: ... The piney bouquet and flavor of gin is derived from Juniper berries, and thus, along with a twist of Lime and Lemon, is the main ingredient in Bathtub Gin cleansing bar.
Casablanca: ... fragrance of Casablanca cleansing bar is composed of diverse and exotic essential oils, including, Bergamot, Frankincense, and Clary Sage.
Chocolate Bar :... obtains its delicious scent and natural dark brown color from cocoa essential oil. ...
Ellis: ...diverse and exotic blend of Rose Geranium, Bergamot, Lavender, and Juniper, ...
Ivy League: ... a smart, rich, sophisticated blend of Rosewood, Clary Sage, and Tangerine.
Jazz: ... contains warm, sweet, sensual notes of Clove, Nutmeg, and Sweet Orange.
Lindy: ... a spirited, uplifting, dashing combination of Orange, Patchouli, Ylang Ylang, Tangerine, and Blue Tansy (added for both its intriguing fruitiness and its natural "wild blue yonder" color).
Lucky Sloop: ... cleansing bar with its exotic spices, like clove, ylang ylang, vetiver, palmrosa and spruce.
Ranger: ... earthy scent of Vetiver, Sandalwood, and Lime, ... An extraordinary fragrance reserved for extraordinary men.
West Point: ...combination of Fir, Cedarwood and Lavender that produces a fresh, bracing scent.
I guess you just have to order them to get the write ups.

Wow. I've never seen such a comprehensive list in which I want to try EVERYthing on it! Looks like another email to Charles is now on the schedule this week!

Good on ya Ron! I'll tell you, that Casablanca is aboslutely superb. I use it only for showering and I'm very careful to lay it up on a soap dish that drains well. These glycerin soaps are just not hard enough to stand up to saturation without melting away or becoming very sticky. I WILL re-order Casablanca when it's gone. One of the BEST complex scents I've sniffed in a long time. I supremely wish that Charles would do up and edt or a/s splash with this combination. Scrumpous I'm telling you.

Hey Todd!
The secret to longevity I have found is to keep the soap high and dry after use. I have three, or was it four?, in rotation for showering and I usually put them back into the container with good result after I have finished showering. I have some additional information from Charles somewhere in the shave shack that I'll post later on this specifically.:ihih:

Good call Ron. That is what I do as well. The containers are perfect for these soaps. Do you have the Casablanca?

Hey Todd and/or Ron...do the soaps come in a container? Is that what you are referring to? I have only been keeping a couple soaps in rotation because they stay in the shower...now if I had containers...that would allow more to come into rotation. Please tell..

Yes they do jar or stick
I think he's talking about the QED bath soaps, not shaving soaps.
I did order one of the QED chocolate bars, and it came in a hard plastic clamshell case. It's not vented or anything, but it's great for storage of the soap itself.

Hey Todd,
The life of a vegetable glycerin soap with skin-friendly ingredients is typically less than a tripled-milled bar of harsh
detergent. To extend the life of a glycerin soap a bit, simply avoid allowing it to stand in water.
There's the OFFICIAL WORD!:w00t: Hmmm.. Sounds like what I do..

I'm having trouble finding these soaps and an ordering link on the QED website. Are they not yet listed? Actually, I'm having trouble finding anything on this website. So maybe it's me.

s Just email Charles. He will usually answer you PROMPTLY. The website is a bit tricky, yes? The bath soaps are not listed on the site yet(I think). Just keep them in the plastic containers they come in and all will be well. As Ron mentioned, don't let them stand in water. A draining type soap dish is perfect.

Hey Todd!
I noted that you started with this product in mind too! So, I harassed the QED man for a writeup on them..
I think I need to post it down in the SHOPPING venue too.. Please note, Charles has Lemon Peel After Shave Conditioner now too. Ooops! PDF is too big! Hmm.. 59KB too big? I have to see if I can butcher the PDF down to size..

Yes Ron, that is the same sheet he sent me. I love Charles' product information sheets. They evoke a bit of film noir in my imagination. Mr. Powell looks supremely confident in that photo. I have to say that the bath soaps are splendid if a bit short lived. I care not for I will buy more. If the others strike at my senses like Casablanca, then I'm in for another credit card bill.
As for the A/S skin conditioner, I like it yet do not catch myself reaching for it now that spring has seemingly sprung on the western states. Same application as before. A TINY amount. I really like both the Texas Cedarwood and the Lemon Peel. The Tejas Cedarwood is so subtle and soothing. The lemon peel wakes me up! Further trial will reveal whether they go on the reorder list. Now, if QED were to start offering up mild alcohol A/S splashes (think Musgo classic)in that delectable Casablanca combo, then I'd really be in credit card trouble! BTW, take that as zero complaint about the a/s skin condtioners. They are totally different products in my mind. I'm just daydreaming. Again Ron, way to go getting the soap list out of that old fox Charles.

I have to revive this thread. I missed this the first time around....
These sound pretty fantastic. Wondering if anyone has tried the Ranger? Sounds really good.
Also, I am all about Todd's idea of QED Skin Conditioning Alcohol Aftershave Splashes. I really do prefer an alcohol splash. Would love to see Charles do a splash that was really conditioning like the Musgo, but with his unique scents and all natural philosophy.
Anybody think there is a chance of persuading him?

Mo - The ranger was my first bar and I thought it was great. A little strong on the grassy vetiver part at first, but it dulled a bit and became amazing. I actually liked it more than the Casablanca. I've got BTgin, Apollo, Ranger, Westpoint, Lindy, Ivy League, and Ellis shipping to me as we speak. I don't shower with anything else

Well Slider, it looks like I will not have to go it alone with the BSAD. I intend to try a few more of his bath soaps on my next order. I purchased three more cakes of the Casablanca a fortnight or so ago and find them to be as superb as the first one.
