Ok, question guys...Is this stuff really worth $25 a tub? I've heard good things, but would like honest feedback about the floral creams..
So how about it? Good?

Well...for me...yes. Its probably one of the pre-eminent creams on the market. And a tub will last a year, longer if you rotate it with other creams. Have you tried a sample?

no, never tried a sample. I bought a tube of Trumper's Sandalwood and was not impressed at all..felt it was overpriced and nasty smelling..I've had much more success with Taylor creams...but i'm intrigued by the violet. I'm just not sure I want to spend the $

I personally don't care for it. A bit too sickly-sweet in scent. Trumpers doesn't shave well for me - I stick to my beloved (and cheaper) Taylors.

Where does one get a sample of this? I've been wondering the same thing. I see they have a travel tube, but that is still about $12 plus shipping.

You can request samples directly from Trumpers. Go to their website and e-mail them.

I heard some negative remarks about Trumpers violet so I don't know if I should buy it or leave it alone.

I like it, but I'd request a sample if I was you...unless you feel like selling it on the forum if you don't like it.

Did you sell it? You could always donate it to the Cologne Forum Fund, of which I am the moderator and sole benefactor of.

The violet smells like violet to me. it's 'floral', but a bit earthy as well, which is a good thing. I'm not into the floral smells so much, but I get such a great shave from the Violet that I've continued to use it. It's the only Trumper cream I've tried. Will probably go for Coconut next.
I enjoy it. It's one of those fragrances that I only use a couple of times a month and usually at night.

I used it this morning and it is floral, but not sickeningly so, as far as I am concerned. I find the lubricity to be better than most other creams and you don't have to use a lot. I do think you would likely get twice as much use out of it compared to the Taylors I use because it is a denser cream in the tub.

Art, you're right, that's what I should do.
Jeff
Trumper's violet works for me. Scent-wise, I find it lovely, but performance-wise, I would give the nod to any of the Harris creams. It's not my "go to" cream, but it will always be in my rotation.

How long does it take for the samples to arrive? I received an email saying they were being sent a month ago. I was hoping to evaluate violet as a potential gift for my father, who is returning soon. I might just buy it without trying it myself if it's going to be a while yet.
Do they send it by parcel post or something?

They can take a very long while (months), but they will come. Hard to wait, though....
I'm a huge Taylor's fan. I've got Rose, Lavender, Avacado, & Shave Shop. As much as I've been enjoying the (cheaper) Taylor's, I can't see myself spending double the money for the Trumper's creams.

I ordered my sampler too, over a month ago and was wondering what is taking so long, but since it's free, I cannot really complain. I ordered my sampler of T&H on Monday and this Friday, it was in the mailbox. Kudos to Brittney Jansen, the US Customer Service Director for her timely response.

Trumpers Violet was the first premium shave cream I ever purchased. I still like it and rotate it through my supplies.

Don't let Trumpers Sandalwood spoil you for all of their creams. I am a big fan of sandalwood in general, but was not impressed with Taylors or Trumpers scent. Violet is a great cream though, it smells wonderful and I think even performs better than the sandal for some reason. I got a tube of rose at the British import store yesterday, I need to quit talking and go try it!

Trumper's Violet was one of my first two premium English Creams I purchased when I began DE shaving again last year and it is still one of my favorites! :thumbup1: My other favorite being Taylor's Rose.
You can see I prefer single note creams and especially florals. The Trumper's Violet always gives a great shave with plenty of thick, creamy lather and best of all...that great Violet scent they managed to cram into that little tub. Yes, it costs twice as much as Taylors, but I just ordered my second tub and will continue to do so in the future. It is a keeper in my rotation!
I also really like D.R. Harris Lavender. Great shave and super scent as well.

Well I got the sampler. I specifically requested violet and the skin food, those are the only things I cared about. They sent me lime, almond, and sandalwood, along with 4 different vials of cologne.
On the up side, I kind of like the lime.

TA,
Same thing happened to me..I specifically requested Violet and they gave me Sandalwood, Limes and Coconut Oil along with some cologne samples and West Indian Limes Skin Food...
I'm not complaining but I guess I'm going to have to buy a tub of violet..

Justso, PM your address. I'll send you a sample of the Trumper's Violet.

it doesn't matter what you suggest, they'll prob. end up sending you rose, sandalwood and lime w/ lime skin food if you are lucky. samples of cologne.
i guess they don't think they need to give out samples of some of their best/favorite cream and i don't blame them. people buy it on recommendation alone.

It wasn't a suggestion. I asked, "where can I get a sample of violet shaving cream" and they said, "we will send you some samples. what is your address?"
Hmmm....

oh well, at least they sent you something.
I can certainly see your frustration. When specifically asking for something and being told, "yes", you might expect to get it. It is, however, a free sample that we're talking about here and that could bring to mind something about a gifthorse...

Yeah, just surprising. Like I said, I am liking the limes cream.

Yes, I would punch that horse square in the mouth. There is nothing that pisses me off more than sloppy customer service. If you say you are going to deliver x product to a customer than you damn well better deliver it. That is the difference between a great customer satisfaction and just OK. FWIW, I'll always do business with a person who has excellent customer service over someone who is just OK anyday.

Randy,
You & I are on the same page here. It's not asking a lot to have a company like Trumper's send some samples out. In my email to them, I even offered to pay them for a sample set and they refused. I specifically asked for violet and coral skin food. Nope, neither showed up. On top of that, it took almost 6 weeks for it to get here. I'd have rather them said "sorry, at this time we only offer limes, sandalwood and coconut oil samples but would be glad to send those out if you like."
T&H on the other hand, immediate service and exactly what I requested.
Trumper's so far is not on my A list
I tend to agree. If Trumper's takes the time to mail samples from across the pond, they should at least get the order right. They coughed up around 7-8 bucks in postage for my samples, yet I didn't get a single thing I requested.
In all fairness to them, any samples are welcome, but they would be better served sending me the items to which I explicitly expressed a desire to purchase. Ultimately, these little things may result in my purchasing 100's of dollars less of their product. When a customer grows weary of waiting, they tend to seek alternatives, which seem to abound in this field.

Not defending Trumper's at all, but they have been one of the "top dogs" for so long that they probably aren't too worried about the new competition. Their name and their product's reputation in the wet shaving world is enough to insure that they stay in business for quite some time, customer service be damned. Additionally, if they were really concerned about the customer, they would knock a few buck off the inflated price of their products.
If there's anything axiomatic in this forum, it's that Trumper's is expensive and Taylor's is a bargain. A tub of Trumper's contains a third more, and when you factor that in, the Taylor is within spitting distance of the former.
Both are fine companies that have a place in my portfolio. I'm sure everyone has their favorites of the two. I prefer Taylor's rose and Trumper's sandalwood, for example.
Trumper's: 7 ounces @ $25 = $3.57 an ounce
Taylor's: 5.3 ounces @ $13.50 = $2.55 an ounce
*if Taylor's sold a 7 ounce jar it would still be $7.15 cheaper*
I disagree with saying the two are equal in value, however, the following statement is dead on:

i think you guys aren't thinking of something.
trumper won't send samples of coral skin food and violet shave cream because, i assume, they are two of their biggest sellers. they don't have any real competition for comparable items and they sell well on their own. if you want to use something similar you have to buy their item.
they are giving out samples of stuff that 'everyone' puts out, lime, rose, sandalwood type cream scents. they want you to pick those over the other brands. they want you to find out that you like their rose better than the other. there are competition for those scents.
the violet cream is talked up a lot and they figure they don't need help selling it. same with coral skin food. granted, if you try their violet and like it you'll prob. end up buying it. if they didn't send it to you and gave you something else that you kind of liked, though, you'll still prob. end up buying the violet because you hear it is so good.
don't decide not to get the trumpers violet just because they didn't send you a sample of it when you asked for it. it's not personal. they are a big enough company where if someone asks for samples they just put your information into a queue and print up labels to put on bags that are already made up for that purpose. the person who got it doesn't go and personally make up your sample bag. it would be too costly to go and handmake everyone's own sample bag based on what they'd like.
i didn't care for anything i got but i def. appreciated the gesture.

I think they send what they have on hand. In the past I have gotten samples containing the Violet, both skin foods, etc. They have also seen a huge influx of people seeking samples compared to the past. I don't think there is any conspiracy theory here, just a beleaguered company.
