View Full Version : Hard Water, Dry Skin

So I've been living in my apartment for quite some time, and it has really hard water. I mean, really really hard water. The water doesn't feel like normal water. It's always got a harsh feeling to it, and a bit of an off smell is left on the skin after a shower.
When I get finished with showering each day (which I do twice -- once in the morning and once in the evening), my skin always is very dry and a little rough (elbows, arms, legs, back, etc.).
Right now I use Head & Shoulders shampoo and Dial for Men body wash gel (and the "lather thingy", whatever you call it).
Any ideas?
Use moisturizer after your shower, it's what I do now.

Try taking only one shower a day, this will leave more natural oils in your skin. Also, don't take a real hot shower, it removes more oil from the skin. You can also use a soap like Dove or some other moisturizing soap, that will help restore more moisture to your skin. Other than that, just slather on the Corn Huskers lotion..............

I feel really oily/greasy/icky only taking one shower a day. My acne seems to get bad if I don't shower before getting in bed at night, and in the morning my hair and face is too oily and messy to not shower. I use Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion, but it leaves my skin feeling quite greasy.

Brad - I'm sorry to hear about your water. I feel the best part of my shower/shave routine is having a water softner. :biggrin1:

Brad,
Try using a 'premium' soap.
Since I've been using Nancy Boy, Zum, Claus Porto, and Blue Ridge Soap Shop soaps I haven't needed to use any lotions after a shower... something I had never experienced during previous winters.

I have a couple of Mama Bear bath soaps on order, as well as her shampoo, aftershave milk, and body cream. Hopefully that stuff will help.

That should be a good start... like I said, I've been amazed at how much difference soap alone can make.
If you have a Whole Foods close by they carry Zum as well as other 'real' soaps that you can try.
