I got into wetshaving to save money, so I started out with this little guy that I found at my parents house...

Nice little English Tech, and hey it was free. So I shaved with this razor exclusively for three or four months, but then I got the urge to try other razors, so I started looking on ebay for something cheap. That was around Sept. and this is what I've bought since.

It's not so much about saving money anymore I guess..

Nice start.
Actually, if I counted correctly, you've 8 more than I have. (excluding my 4 Merkurs) I'd better get busy! I haven't bought any in a couple of months now.

I hope I'm near the end :scared:

I would like a Sticky, Toggle or 195, but I'm not willing to pay the current market value for them. I have a variation or two to get with the Goodwill razor. I don't have a short black handled adjustable yet, and would like to get another long handled one in nicer conditon. There are a few Tuckaways I haven't gotten yet. And, of course, there are the Aristocrats. The only one of mine I'm really happy with is the 66.

Sometimes I think about getting a Merkur Vision, but have been able to talk myself out of it so far.

Hi there,
Seems like you have the beginnings of quite a large 'hobby' on your back. You fit right in, that's for sure.
Smiling and shaking my head in amazement...heh,

Thanks, that has got to be the biggest razor I have ever seen.

Yeah, that's a Stahly, when you twist the bottom part of the razor it vibrates.

I just wanted to show this before and after of the razor from the Big Boy/Fellow catagory, it's the razor in the Top row second from the right.

This is what it looked like when I got it:

I don't know why no one bid against me for this on Ebay

Well, after a whole lot of boiling and scrubbing this is what came out

http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=5693

http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=5694

...not perfect but not a bad looking razor. Usually I'm not one for boiling or polishing gold razors (I couldn't even tell if it was gold when I got it anyways), but these old gillettes seem to have a bullet proof finish to them.

I miss the famous Gillette Manchurian..........:cursing:

And where is the early Gillette double ring.........

My goodness......this is really a severe case of RAD.....nothing compared to my SBAD....

And yet 30 more razors to go.......

Nice collection! I love those Rockets! Do you have the cases for those as well? I have the two on the bottom of your pic and knew about the two on the top right. However I didn't know they made a gold Rocket as well. One more to add to my wantlist!

Sorry, I haven't checked this thread in a few days... I've been busy moving (and it's a lot of work moving when you have this many razors :001_tt2: )

As for favorites I'm really partial to the De Lux NEW razors, I think they're beautiful and they shave really well. Actually this is the thread that kicked off my RAD (http://www.shavemyface.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10978&highlight=belmont) I was too late to buy that razor, but once I saw such nice pictures of a Bostonian I was hooked. Although my minty 66 sure is pretty too... I haven't shaved with it yet though.

I don't have any cases for the rockets. I bought 4/5 of them locally from two different sources before I even knew what they were. Good thing too, seeing how much they're going for on ebay. The only one I got from ebay was the gold one, and it went cheap.. around $10 I think. The one in the lower left corner is actually an Aristocrat Jr. and the one in the center is a 58. I just grouped them together since they seem to belong in the same family. Actually the 66 could go with them too I guess.

I think it was Moses who has a gold double ring Rocket, so there is that variation as well.

I was drooling over the pictures of your collection, wow. Is there any appreciable shaving differences between the 40's model Rockets and the 50's models? I'm certainly no expert but thought from the pictures that you had both.

Hello,
My wife wants to know where you keep all your razors??

I haven't shaved with the Rockets enough to review their performance... I think the only one I've used so far is the double ring, which I found to be a rather mild and unremarkable shaver.

As to where I store them all, I have a drawer in my dresser which is dedicated to the razors. I keep them in eyeglass cases, which I picked up in bulk on ebay.

The most disappointing razor that I've used so far is the Gold open-tooth Aristocrat, that thing is Raspy with a capital R. The NEW razors shave like 100X better. Although it is pretty.

Where did you find that Schick Adjustable? That's a beauty!:001_tt1:

c white

I found the Schick Adj. at a local Flea Market for $6, I couldn't believe it.. case and everything. Someone had cleared out all the Gillette razors, but left the Schick behind.

The only problem I have with it is the Label on the handle that says "Schick Adjustable" has started to come off since I've been using it. I'm tempted to just pull it all the way off.

I am assuming that it's a pretty good shaver then.

As pricy as those are, I'd probably either put it under glass or just sell it on Ebay. Don't take the label off!

Are you sure the razor in the middle of the rockets isn't a model 58? Or is a rocket and a 58 the same thing? I've never seen any model # for Gillettes other than 66 and 58 so I don't know if they all had model numbers or names.
How rude, should have said this at the top, great collection.

Yeah that is a #58, and one of the others is actually an Aristocrat Jr., I just group them together since they're so similar. From what I can tell a #58 is the exact same razor as the double ring rocket, but with a different pattern on the handle.

I've actually slowed down in buying razors, I have several parcels waiting for me at my prior address, including a Gold Aristocrat (finally got around to picking one up), an un-notched superspeed, two Presidents, and another Big Fellow.

I've basically got all the razors I want/or ever need, plus I'm too much of a cheapskate to pay the current ebay prices.

(not to say that I don't still keep an eye on the 'bay in case something interesting shows up)

Are you rich or were you rich? Nice collection but you can only shave with one at a time. If I had ordered that many razors, my wife would have shot me.
And I would have loaded it for her! :001_tt2:

After you posted that pic of the Rockets I was able to track down one more from that pic. The one on the top right. So now I have the bottom two and the top right is on it's way. So you don't think the middle one is really a Rocket but actually a 58? Which are you thinking was the Aristocrat Jr.?

c white
02-16-2007, 11:05 PM
The Aristocrat Jr. is the bottom left. It's got the flat base-plate.

The middle razor is a 58, but really is just the same as a rocket.

It's like the 66 is a 66, but its also an Aristocrat.

Here's an old topic I started on SMF about the 58 and the double ring Rocket (http://www.shavemyface.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12326&highlight=)

Awesome collection. I'd say you are officially an obsessed RAZORHEAD, like the rest of us. I'm sorry. I think we need to start up a 12 step program.
