You might want to check with Saint Sue who has developed a new product for those with dry skin(unfortunately, it wouldn't do me any good-my skin is much to oily).

I don't really use any thing real fancy or have a fancy routine. I simply wash my face in the shower with whatever soap we have (these days it's Dove unscented) then I lather with whatever cream or soap I have a hankering for that day. Lately I've been using Pre de Provence, and Provence Sante soaps with shea butter. Excellent stuff.
Then I follow up with an aftershave - in the summer it's an alcoholic aftershave, in the winter I use a balm. Since my favorite aftershave - DR Harris Aftershave Milk - has been reformulated I have been reaching for Art of Shaving unscented or Castle Forbes Lavender. I do my whole face and throat and they seem to sink right in and keep me from drying out. Absent a balm in winter and I will dry up and blow away.

I don't shave every day. On the non-shaving day I use a gentle face scrub. Adding a pre-shave oil helps me too. I always moisturise every day.

My dermatologist once told me that I have the driest skin he'd ever seen!
So, I use all kinds of stuff. My best shaving related things are Mama Bear's soap, QED soap, Nivea ASB for sensitive skin, and C. O. Bigelow's Dr. Galen ASB.
More standard skin care products I use regularly include Aveeno lotion, Palmer's olive oil lotion, Tree Hut shea butter body cream, Palmer's cocoa butter body stuff, Nivea eye lotion (for my eyelids, which get dry and crack open, painfully) and, really, all sorts of other stuff.

I probably have closer to normal skin, but think I it's dry...anyway.
Facewash: Body Shop Citrus Scrub
I used wash my face in the shower then shave. Now that's a no-no so am actually washing my face less and when I do remember, at night. If I'm not going to shave that morning, I'll wash face in the shower though.
Shave Creams: Body Shop and as of today Taylor's Avocado.
Aftershave/Moisturizer: Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture spf 15.
And while we're at it...
Legs and Arms: Lubriderm with oat extract
Hands: JR Watkins Red Clover Salve. I've started using this at night and is working great keeping my hands moisturized into the next day. I used to get use Neutrogena Norwegian Formula (the greasy stuff) at work but now find it is not necessary. Highly recommended.

I use a scrub because I have razor wire for facial hair and I dont wash on the days I scrub because it will just aid in drying my skin out. I shave in the evening because I have more time plus my skin is more even toned a couple hours after I shave instead of right after.

I have dry skin in winter.
What's working for me is this night-time routine which leaves my skin soft for the next shave:
1) Wash face with a gentle face wash: Dessert Essence Thoroughly clean face Wash
2) Cold water splash
3) Thayer's w. aloe WH
4) Proprietary oil blend (also used for preshave)
5) Any heavy/night moisturizer (ie Avalon Organics or Dessert Essence)

Facewash: Kiehl's Cleansing Milk. This stuff is really weird, in that it's meant to be applied to dry skin, then rinsed off. Not completely sure if I like it, but it certainly works for the time being.
Scrub: Kiehl's Moisturizing Facial Scrub. Fairly gentle.
Shave Creams: Taylor's Avocado (No acquisition disorder... yet). I'm strangely tempted by the SCS Shea Butter & Avocado Oil Shaving Cream, though.
Aftershave/Moisturizer: Kiehl's Aftershave Balm and Moisturizer for Men. Has a cooling sensation strangely reminiscent of Vicks VaporRub, but it works well. The scent certainly isn't anything to write home about.
Hands: Basically the strongest hand salve I can find.
Eye Area (I kid you not. It's very strange, and very annoying): I use Keihl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. It works, but I need to apply it daily. Also, it's very expensive for an extremely small jar (about $28 an ounce). I'm currently looking for a cheaper/better alternative.
Looking back, it seems that I use a lot of Kiehl's stuff. I don't have a particular attachment to any product, though. I'll have to try some of the other products mentioned in this thread.
Thanks for the recommendations!

I just don't wash my face.
I suffered from acne for years and I finally realized that the biggest culprit was the dry skin I was getting from trying to wash the acne away.
I've always found the idea of washing your face twice a day - morning and evening - to be very strange. What the hell are you doing during sleep that you're going to need to wash your face again when you wake up?
I really only wash my face when it is visibly dirty. Generally, the hot water I use for shaving will suffice.
So, I just shave with whatever products I'm using at the moment. That's my routine. Oh, and I use Thayer's.

shaving: Harris almond soap, GFT coconut cream, TOBS St-James, Rose, Tabac Soap, GFT rose soap, Speick cream, ...
AS: Proraso liquid and P&P, Cade balm, Blue Floïd (moisturizing splash!), Harris AS milk, Bronnley balm ( ).
Wash: once or twice a week: T-zone with Aleppo soap, beard area only on non-shaving days, which is almost never.
I am also afflicted by dry skin during the fall / winter months so what I do is this...
I wash my face with my Proactiv 4 step system
I spritz a light Bergamot Hydrosol / glycerin mix to further soften my beard
I use Taylors Rose Shave Cream
I shave with Merkur Futur with Feather blades
I spritz again, but with rose hydrosol / glycerin mix
Then I use a home-made, (I made a blend of Rose Hydrosol, Witch Hazel, Rosemary Oil, Aloe Vera Oil (actually a water not "oil"), glycerin, and arrowroot powder as a thickener.), After Shave Balm similar to Coral Skin Food. It is essentially the same, but I made 1 gallon for the cost of 100ml of the Trumper.
Anyone interested in making your own A/S milks or balms should go to this website. Organic Creations (http://www.organic-creations.com/servlet/StoreFront) Betty will help you with formulas and everything you need to make your own stuff. It is a really great resource.
Hopefully someone will be adventurous enough to give them a try. PM me for details.
Cheers!

Guys, I've slightly changed my routine until it's get warmer here ; it's great :
-Morning : shower, no face wash / then shave, A/S balm and moisturizer
-Evening (on days I don't go to the gym; If I go to the gym, I then use the face wash after working out in the evening) : face wash and moisturize.
I don't have a problem using a face wash before shave , since I apply the wash on the non-beard area only ; but for the eastern canadian winter, I prefer to use it at night

everything about the same. i find i reach for proraso alot more these days and i don't use hot water when taking a shower. also i reach for conditioner instead of soap on most days and soap only when necessary. yes it's not on your face but the soap does drip down onto the face and help dry it out.

Yeah, sometimes, even I use the face cleanser on the non-beard area, some of it drips down on the beard area and it's enough to make the shave bad

I have very dry skin and it is awful in the winter. :frown:
I use everything. Aveeno lotion, Palmer's olive oil lotion, Cornhusker's lotion, Noxema, Tone cocoa butter soap, Olay moisturizing soap, Burt's Bee's lip wax, Proraso, Nivea, and C. O. Bigelow's Dr. Galen ASB's, Tree Hut body creams, and on and on and on. Anything that looks moisturizing, I will try it. I even have to put Nivea eye cream on my eyelids to keep them from cracking open. Boy, does that hurt. :scared:

Hands: Keri lotion
Lips: Pure shea butter from L'Occitane
Those are my two worst areas in winter. For my face, I'm starting to experiment mixing witch hazel with vegetable glycerine in my hands and then rubbing it on. This is post-shave. Dunno if it's making a huge difference yet, but it ain't hurting eithrr.

DRY-SKINNED FELLOWS , what is your facial routine (cleanse, shave, A/S, sunscreen) for HOT, VERY HUMID SUMMER DAYS ??????:scared:
I'm asking that because I have to bring some moiture back, but at the same time, the humidy makes my face oily/greasy//heavy
Dry-skinned only ; people with oily skin don't apply don't apply:hand:

I usually use a very small amount of facial moisturizer (Neutrogena with SPF, jojoba oil, etc.) on a wet face. This way a little goes a long way, while still keeping your face moisturized. If I still feel like my face is too oily or greasy, I just pat my face with a damp towel. Works great for me at least. :001_cool:

I see ; thanks
Gents,
I am not dry skinned but I will share with you a discovery inspired by JohnP at SMF based on his similar experience shaving with a C&E superfatted shea butter soap. I have shaved frequently with L'Occitane Verbena 8.8 ounce Shea Butter Soap which has 20% shea butter per the sales lady and achieved close and comfortable very moisturizing shaves. That this soap is superfatted seems evident using it. This soap is a bath soap and is currently priced at $12.00 for an 8.8 ounce bar which seems very pricey for a bath soap but not bad for a shaving soap. The ingredients appear to be mostly natural and the soap is palm and palm kernel oil based. I find this soap to be very skin compatible and my wife likes it also. The scent is light and refreshing. I lather the bar with a Proraso Omega boar hair brush and produce abundant lather for three to four pass shaves. There is also a lavender and milk scent if you prefer but our preference is the verbena. I do not care for juniper scent so I do not use the Cade shaving soap which is also not all natural like this bath soap. I must admit that I find the L'Occitane Verbena Shea Butter soap to be actually too moisturizing for me to shave with daily. It is also a very nice bath soap but too pricey to use on a regular basis for us. Good luck all.
