Gents--

I've just uploaded my latest video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFNuV7vxZvA) to YouTube. This one is "Ideas for Wetshaving While Travelling," with a side trip into the realm of shave sticks. If you look carefully you can see the cat make another appearance  ! For those of you who have YouTube blocked, it should be on Visuarios in a day or so.

I'm working on two more episodes about Method shaving (generating the mix and shaving the forms), an episode on how to restore a vintage DE razor to shaving condition, and another "advanced techniques" video. Additional suggestions very welcomed!

I don't believe DE razor blades can be "carried on", even if they're in a blue plastic case

Joe-- That's certainly true in the US. But since I have to produce my videos for a world-wide audience (fully 30% of the channel's subscribers are outside the US) I had to kind of "fudge it" by saying that you need to check with the carrier.

Actually, in theory, they're permitted by TSA.

I believe that when they say "safety razor" they are referring to M3 and its related cartridges.

I think so too. Or they might mean the razor but not the blade. Like many things TSA-related, it's going to be up to the individual doing the inspection. Until this rule becomes a whole lot more clear, I'm not going to try putting mine in my carry-on bag.

Under Razor-Type Blades is the following:

"Razor-Type Blades - such as box cutters, utility knives, razor blades not in a cartridge, but excluding safety razors."

The entry for that is "No" so they seem to differentiate between cartridge razors and safety razors, and they seem to exclude safety razors from the 'no' entry for Razor-Type Blades.

Of course, YMMV tremendously depending on who is doing the inspection, which is why in my original post I put "theoretically".

I carried my Merkur Classic on a trip a couple of months ago and had no problems. I even had it in my carry-on bag. What gives?

Re-read what I wrote...I was referring to Blades

The blades themselves are questionable, not the razor itself.

Mark- did you get that blue plastic case at Wal Mart, K-Mart, or Target? Also- what kind of a dollar store did you find the DE razor? I checked 2 today and couldn't locate a razor. Thanks-

The blue case came from Wal-Mart. I found the pastic DE a couple years ago at a Kind Dollar, but I haven't seen them in a while (really haven't been looking though  ).

Safety razor means cartridge razor. DE blades will cause suspicion. Better to pack in hold, purchase on arrival, or use something else. I don't fancy having a delayed journey due to an over-zealous low-level-functionary having a bad-day power-trip.

Yeah, it was definitely late. I had hoped to upload it before the holidays but "the real world" kept interrupting!

I just flew from seattle to san diego with 4 safety razors and around 40 disposable blades in my carry on without any problem at all. It's really based on the individual that's inspecting.

That's really worrying that you can do that.

Mark, just got around to watching the latest. That was great! I love the paint pot idea. I'll be headed to Austin TX for Spring Break, so I will keep those tips in mind. Thanks as always for the great stuff!

I wonder if DE razor blades are uncommon enough that the inspector doesn't realize what they are.
