Sure, we can all hope online or run down to a local vendor and pick up shaving supplies. But are you one of those who can "build a better mousetrap"? Or maybe you just want to craft an item because you can! This is the place to post your pics! Show us what you have done, creatively speaking. Whether it's a brush stand, a brush, shelving, whatever, share your invention by posting here. Please, whenever possible, upload your pics to the B&B Gallery rather than hosting from an outside source.

Randy

**Edit** In my haste to post this, I failed to recognize Kyle Stoner and TraderJoe as being the instigators of this idea. Gents, great idea! Now, let's put it to use!

I've got more "brush stands" in the closet hanging from various places - stay tuned for more pics

I did not make these, they were done by my lady! It was my only shaving related Christmas gift. So if you are wondering how to decorate the ol' shave den, try this...

One is a SOTD pic and the other of three Shavemac brushes, filtered through Photoshop, printed and framed for hanging!

I made this over the holiday break. It holds my brush and razor, and the top cap has a slit cut in it, so it is also a blade bank! The bottom cap has a hole for drainage/air circulation. I saw a little ceramic barber pole stand/blade bank on eBay, and thought I could make a better looking one.
http://www.badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=5342

http://www.badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=5341

I plan on adding a shelf at the bottom to put my bowl, and replacing the clips with pre-made plastic-coated clips that are a better fit. (I hand-dipped these clips in plasti-dip) The brush clip is a little tight, so the pre-made one will be better, plus it is white, rather than black.

I apologize for the cruddy pics, I'll take better ones this weekend.

That barber pole razor and brush rack is SUPER nice looking!

Someone had a post in another thread about a "coat" for their HD. Back when I first started properly wetshaving, I had seen the cases for the Merkurs, but didn't want to wait on shipping, so I went to Michaels craft store and bought some leather and a magnetic purse snap. The final product (case) I made looks like this:

I guess there are fancy punches for that sort of thing, but I used a small nail to punch fairly equal distance holes all around the edges, then took two needles and some heavier (but not waxed) thread and kinda did like lacing shoes so that I had nice, even stitching on both sides.

The purse clasp just has two prongs that fold back to hold it on, and I cut a small piece of leather to sew over the prongs so they wouldn't show on the outer cover.

(Edit: the reason I used the purse clasp is I don't have a fancy rivet punch to put in a real snap. )

Well, here are a few pics of my little shave den... my shelf to be exact... the only 1' x 5" piece of washroom untouched by SWMBO and immune to all female influence!!! :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1:

I made the brush stand out of a metal bracket and coat hanger, and the razor rack is simply some bent coat hanger as well. I painted them both with 3 coats of white acrylic model paint and screwed them into the shelf. I'm pretty pleased with them both. :tongue_sm However, if given a chance, I plan to make a razor rack with the same bracket & coat hanger idea as the brush stand. That way, they'll match a bit better.

Couldn't put it in the gallery because it won't upload from a URL, but I made this candleholder for my mom last christmas, my senior year of highschool. I don't even remember exactly how I went about it, but I know a beltsander was involved, and quite possibly a jigsaw, but don't quote me on that. I freehanded the template, and used that to draw outlines on each piece. It was made from some high grade marine plywood, we figured birch or fir, that we found in an old building they were tearing down out at Memphis International. I want to say it's 3/4" or 5/8". This pic was taken before it was finished, I'm pretty sure I wound up using clear polyurethane spray, and it turned out with a very nice honey color, and the layers look awesome. I'll see if I can't find the finished pics, or failing that, take some more.

*edit* Sorry it's not shaving gear, but I did make it myself, but it does add a nice aura to a room, I want something similar for my dream shave den.

I'm glad you appreciate it! Art is very subjective you know. As you can see I poured my heart and soul into that piece!

...Ok so it took me 5 seconds to realize it fit in a retired razor holder...but it's got a old world-modernized fusion charm thing going on!

Taz:

The one for the brush was originally used as a broom hanger (see pic below). I simply removed the wire portion, replaced it with coat hanger, and bent the coat hanger into the shape I required. I'm planning to get another one of these brackets and do the same kind of thing for my razor. It really works great! The part that took the longest was the 3 coats of paint.

Here's my submission. I was going to buy an antique stand, but I thought why not build my own. I took an empty Old Spice Aftershave bottle, and made a bracket to hold my razor and brush. I made is out of some scrap aluminum I had laying around. The bracket was finished with engine turning, for a "Hot Rod" appearance. I hope you like it.

Okay I've got a few home made things here, so bear with me.
first is the shelf, solid oak, got the railing and brackets from Lowes
the hangers are simple plant hangers
the soap dishes are sugar bowls from Walmart and the soap is mama bear's
The brush and razor stand are solid Ironwood with 3/8 brass rod
and I also made the brush from acrilic resin real gold leaf and a silvertip knot off E-bay.
and the tall bottle contains home made Bay Rum.

Goodmorning gents,

As promised i will post a picture of my new(by) gear. I've read it numerous times here, but i can now say it myself; i really enjoy (DE-)shaving now, before (with a Fusion or Mach) i didn't.

I made the brush and DE-holder together with my dad.

Honest opinion; what do you thinks looks better? My own one or something like this? Because i still don't know for myself.

My gear:

Merkur HD
Derby and Wilkinson blades
(Crappy) Body Shop synthetic brush
Proraso Shaving Soap
Body Shop Shaving Cream
2 euro Soup-bowl

Oh and gents: when i "loaded" my HD i saw that one little part of the thread whichs screws in the razor, wasn't plated. So, it looks gold in that little spot. Is this bad?

Oh and sol92258: be my guest. The little sticks that hold the brush and the razor are 6 mm diameter. The one where the sticks are in, i would guess (haven't measured it) 12-14 mm. Good luck!

Tell me what you think of my brush and razor stand. It was a toothbrush holder from Bed Bath & Beyond that I cut away one of the edges with a dremel and notched the insert so it holds my brush in the same spot every time. If people want more pictures let me know. Holds the longest razor I have (The Knack) with no issues and next to the knack is my fatboy. Not too bad for $15 I don't think.

I think just being a wetshaver, says something about a person. Having a unique briush or razor stand or holder is just par for the course. I made these
out of a wrecked bumper cover if you can believe that....yes a car bumper.

Once I found out I was hooked on using a D/E razor, I built this stand to hold my Merkur HD and Vulfix brush. It's solid Walnut with an oil finish and poly clear coat. I used rubber bumpers for feet, which, in addition to providing a non-slip grip, also keep the stand from sitting in any water that may be splashed or dripped on the counter.

The "wish bone" of a wire hanger modified to hold my C&E BBB

http://www.whydavewhy.com/d/18708-1/IMGP1575.JPG

Took a bit of working, but got the BBB to 'snap' into place.

http://www.whydavewhy.com/d/18710-1/IMGP1576.JPG

I designed the "twist" on the base to be double-purpose, first for stability on the counter and second, it makes for a good 'lock' on my shelf while hanging the stand from above.

What diameter pipe, what type of metal, where purchased, did you wrap it around a form to get such neat and even curves, if so, what form. These are lovely, I need to make up two of them for my sons. Please advise. Many thanks in advance.

I am glad you like it. I had some stainless pipes around and I thought how I could make one stand for myself. We had a pipe bender in the office and I took that and this is the result. I did a couple of prototype and this is the third one that came out well. I was amazed by how it turned out. I should tell you that I cannot hold my small EJ badger brush. you can hold a medium size brush easily. I gave two away on this forum and I kept one for myself. I do not have any extra pipe at the moment. If you can get a 1/4 inch stainless steel pipe and a bender you should be able to make it. The bender is from Swagelok Company.
I am attaching the bender's image. Please, let me know if you need more help.

It is easy to make one you just need to have the right tool. A possibility is to go to swaglok homepage and find a distributor close to you and buy a bender. I am sure you should be able to return it if you are not happy with it. They will also let you know where to buy 1/4 inch stainless steel pipe. A word of cautious: This stand is not suitable for small handle brushes. Please, let me know if you need more help.

There's always copper, but it would be difficult not to kink it with that tight of a bend radius, and it wouldn't really hold up to much abuse.

What about something like welding rod?

Hey darjeeling that looks like 1/4 stainless stell brake line too me. Go to your local auto parts store and ask for 1/4in break of fuel line. I think you can get a 5' piece of tubing for $5.00 or so. Today I decided to try this kind of proto.

Put a gob of epoxy glue between two bowls.
An idea is to prevent the inner mug moving around and clatter whilst making lather. Let's see how long it lasts before the hot water melted the glue off and the bowl drop to the floor breaking to pieces. :001_rolle
The glue itself should be waterproof but hot water has a great ability to soften things.
Well the inner one is a free gift and outer costs 1€ ($ 1,22) so no hard feeling if this experience fails. :001_smile

A bit more serious though... I know it doesn't really count, but it's kinda DIY...

I guess you all know IKEA, well they have a small wooden cupboard called "Fira". I use it to store (most of) my shaving supplies, such as blades, razors, soaps etc. It comes in a couple of variations (different sizes of drawers), so it can be converted to your needs fairly easily. I paid just under 10 euros for mine, so you can't exactly say it's expensive.
It also looks nice, and overall I'm very satisfied. This is no endorsement for IKEA whatsoever, it's just a DIY thingie (since you have to put it together yourselves).

The girl who rented this place before me had installed a small wooden closet for her make-up stuff.. I thought it was excellent for storing shaving supplies. How wrong could I be? The wood wasn't suitable for use in a damp or wet environment and molts were growing. I quickly got rid of that smelly swollen cabinet.

While stainless tubing has a real cool factor, there is a lot to like about brass tubing.

You can bend it with a coiled spring bending sleeve, by hand.
It is cheap so you can do a lot of prototypes.
Once you get good at it you can also bend copper and aluminum.
