Fragrance Friday: Dunhill Icon

L1000364Recently released in 2015, Dunhill Icon retails for $81 for 1.7 oz and $117 for 3.4oz. While new, it has been well received in the market, and was even awarded Best New Fragrance in 2016 by GQ Magazine.

Dunhill Icon is an interesting scent – while light and fresh, its prodigious projection and silage is unprecedented for a neroli and bergamot focused scent. Orange peel and honey dominate the opening, but once it settles down after ten to fifteen minutes very little can be detected save for an atom bomb of neroli and bergamot. Six foot plus projection and incredible silage are overwhelming, if not used in extreme moderation.L1000370

Longevity is simply superb – 24 hours is standard. While most neroli based scents whither and fade when exposed to the elements, like say a lengthy motorcycle ride, even a full day in the saddle won’t tame this Icon. In fact, it’ll whiff up into your helmet throughout the entire day.

Description:

Sleek top notes of Italian bergamot and neroli absolute are intertwined with the warmth of smoky oud wood and an orris-leather accord. It is an iconic, signature scent for the sophisticated gentleman.

L1000373The atomizer on this bottle, sprays a medium sized mist – which is more than enough, as you’ll definitely want to go easy on the trigger with this powerhouse. Dunhill also sets a new standard for fragrance bottles, as the incredibly thick and heavy glass, wrapped in diamond aluminum looks and feels as though it should command a mighty price tag. This is arguably the finest fragrance bottle I’ve experienced.

Would I buy it again? No. For me, it’s just too potent. I don’t experience Olfactory fatigue with this scent, and while I do like it, the strength and the relentless, unforgiving and downright commanding projection, silage and longevity is simply tiring. After 12 hours of relentless assault, I simply want a break, and I like the experience of fragrances changing and becoming a skin scent as it feels more natural and keeps me intrigued. Dunhill Icon never relents. If you like Neroli scents and you want one with unyielding longevity and projection – look no further, as for you – this will likely be a 10/10.
