Today's Cocktail

The Boulevardier.

A bourbon riff on the classic Negroni, this is an old classic.

1 1/2 oz bourbon or Rye1 oz Campari
1 oz sweet vermouth (I back it off to 3/4 ounce)

Mix in a mixing glass with ice to dilute, strain and pour into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with orange zest after expressing oils. $IMG_4728.jpg $IMG_4731.jpg

Boulevardier, correct? I have not used that much zest in mine before, may have to try that tonight.

Love the stocked cabinet in the background.

One of my all time favorite bourbon whiskey cocktails! I like it on the rocks but up is good also. I think the Negroni is made the same way using gin as the main spirit?

I discovered these over the holidays and I and drinking one now on the rocks as I pulled this post up. It is a wonderful, complex and boozy drink!

Orange Essence (invented by Julia Child's husband Paul)

2 ounces Dark Rum (Gosling Black Seal)
1 ounce Dubonnet
1/2 ounce Dolin's White Vermouth
1-2 drops orange bitter
Decorate with a slice of orange

Serve over ice.

Sounds great I love Manhattans and this sort of things looks right up my alley. Now where did I put that bottle of Campari?

Brown Derby

1 1/2 ounce Bourbon
1 ounce freshly squeezed grapefruit (I prefer the pink grapefruit)
1/2 ounce of honey syrup (made by mixing 1 part honey with equal part hot water)

Pour in mixing glass filled with ice, stir, strain and serve up with either orange or grapefruit zest.
