The Formula 1 2012 thread

Why did I not think to look here, at the civilized corner of the internet, for intelligent discussion of Formula One? I'll be posting here more as the season progresses. :)

Waiting for the race in China is killing me. The three week period should show some engineering improvements.
Should is the key word here.
I did see that they released the tyre schedule for a few upcoming races.
Medium and soft for China.

No multiple "Massa Sucks" threads here! Just civilized discourse.

Can't wait to see what Adrian brings to China. The Ferrauber won't be ready until May. I hope Kimi's team spends the dough to keep him competitive, He could really make things interesting.

Monaco is soft and super-soft. Most races are going to be hard and medium compounds. I find it a little surprising, but there are also a lot of tough surfaces as well.

I thought it was surprising to see the allotment for Catalunya with the jump from soft to hard. It will be quite interesting to see how teams set up the car to handle the differences in tyres.

To be fair, he does though.

Too funny.

It's easy to rag on any particular driver you don't like, but it's hard to forget the incredible responsibility each of them carries, and the level of talent they have to display before even being considered for a seat. Still, I don't see this season ending well for him, if at all.

Didn't know B&B also covered F1 but I am not surprised. Nice to see some comments here and indeed, without bashing drivers that are much much better at driving cars than anyone else.

About Massa: I think he never recovered from the blow he got from being world champion for 4 seconds.

I was afraid that the Saubers and particularly Vettel would pull out a huge lead in the first races but luckily, that didn't happen.

Shanghai is very promising.

Any of you guys also follow the live timing the official F1 site provides? I think it's a great addition to see for oneself how drivers are doing.

Will come back here more!

Bye

Eric

The three week wait is torture so early in the season.

+1. I can understand a break going from SE Asia/China to Europe but this long layoff must cost the teams considerably more in travel expenses. I'm sure most of the teams few everything back to homebase in Europe to try and improve the cars before Shanghai.

I think this long break might be intended to give the top and middle teams a chance to adjust a bit from the "nothing up my sleeve" factors that get revealed during the first two races. Maybe the guys at Maranello can sort out their goofy Pull-rod suspension well enough to stay in the points until the major changes they have slated for May. Wonder how Adrian is fitting a W-duct into the RB8? He never leaves much room for change.

I agree with Eric, the 4 second WC was a tough blow, and he hasn't been the same since Ruebens' spring almost killed him. With all the denials of Speedy leaving Sauber, I won't be surprised to see him in a red jumpsuit at The Casino.

I must add that I thought it was a pretty cruel dig by Ruebens in the press the other day.

Sounds like they may have the E20's steering sorted for China so look out for the Kimster.

In his early days, I quite liked Massa and never really had a problem with him, but as you say, he has never really been the same since the accident and now he is a shadow of the driver he could have been. Rather than destroy his reputation he should go now and retire gracefully.

You should have invited him over for some of that Poulet Basquaise last night and explained it to him. Would have made it easier to hear the bad news.

Actually, to be fair, I think Ferrari never gave him the chance to recover after his accident. They expected him to be up-to-par with how he was driving BEFORE the accident, and of course he was just getting back on his feet. They put someone else beside him who did well a few times in their car, and all of a sudden Massa is playing second-fiddle without really having gotten the chance to get back to the way he was.

Of course, there are some who would argue that he may never be the driver he was before again.

Can you tell I'm a Massa fan? Have been since I started watching F1. I have a Ferrari flag in my living room, I have a funny feeling I'll be taking it down after this season ... I really don't see them keeping him much longer.

And, I agree - I hope Lotus puts the effort in to keep Kimi competitive - would love to see him spoil a few parties for others ^_~
