Brush - 'Mama Chub' (Chubby 2 Two Band)

Due to shifts of 12hrs+ this past week, I had to have a quick mid week shave with the Sensor/KMF.. which did the job, but it was a real delight to have a 'proper' shave, and the 'Mama Chub'/Darkfall combo did not disappoint in the lather dept, whilst the ‘The Rock’/Astra delivered a smooth, BBS shave... yeah, feeling good..

The Italian Shave

Sometimes I like to shave with Italian shaving products only. This Sunday was one of those times and for the occasion I used my homemade shave products, an Omega brush and a Mastro Livi straight razor. The pre-shave oil, shaving cream and aftershave were all made by me at home and I am sure many of you know I like to make my own shaving stuff at home as a hobby. I like experimenting and to test new recipes, something I am doing since more than ten years now. I believe shaving with your homemade products adds extra pleasure to the pleasure of shaving, a rite made of small however big things, something you slowly savor while avoiding the frenzy of our modern times. The shave was absolutely special thanks to the super smoothness of this Mastro Livi Stripes CarboInox straight razor, a superb BBS shave!

  • Pre-Shave: RazorGuy Pre-Shave Oil
  • Soap: RazorGuy Almond Oil Shaving Cream
  • Brush: Omega Bristle 10275
  • Bowl: Chinese Bowl
  • Strop: Mastro Livi Travel Loom Strop and Hand Palm
  • Razor: Mastro Livi Stripes CarboInox Italy, 7/8 Full Hollow, Spanish Point
  • Post-Shave: Alum Block
  • Post-Shave: Umbrian Extravirgin Olive Oil
  • After Shave: RazorGuy Bay Rum

Superb Thursday, gentlemen. All the beauty and loveliness that one might expect to see in these pages was certain evident to one's perusal.

Thanks for all photographic and text contributions. They were stunning.

Well, it's that time again, gents. I'll say good evening and see you soon....

Great way to end the work week, gentlemen. Excellent photos and text posts. Thanks for each one.

@sandstone - Phil, is that handle on the Fatip comfortable to use?

It's very late for me, gents, so I'll just say good evening. Be seeing you....

Thank you, Ron, for your kind comments!

Yes, I found the handle on the Fatip Retro to be comfortable to shave with, surprisingly so. Despite its elegant, but somewhat slippery appearance it provided a comfortable and sure grip. The ball end is a handy pinkie rest which feels good too.

@ram57 - Wonderful composition. The droplet border really gives the photo an interesing look. How was the Calypso soap and after shave?

The Calypso shave cream was a custom blend he did for me but all it is his Bay Rum, straight Pimenta Racemosa and I had him add a small dose of menthol. He mixed it perfectly as it a light cool feeling on the face but the Pimenta Racemosa is prominent. Both the aftershave and cream the aroma hangs for some time and Al's cream explode with small amount of water. Doesn't have the extra smooth post shave feel as others but it is an excellent shave cream.

SOTD Sunday, January 8, 2017...

Shaving Soap: Williams Mug
Brush: Grampa's Brush (I think its Boar, not sure who made it, does anybody have any thoughts?).
Razor: Merkur 23C.
Blade: Shark Super Chrome (2)
Head Cartridge Razor: Gillette Sensor Excel (6)
Post1: Naturally Fresh Alum Block
Post2: Dickinson's Original Witch Hazel
After Shave: Old Spice

Yesterday was my Grandmother's funeral, she was 87 years young. My Mom and Aunt went through her house this week and they found Grandpa's shaving brush (he passed 16 years ago) and gave it to me. I used her glass bowl as a shaving bowl and it worked well (and I will add it to my bowl rotation). I used Williams Mug because I figure that's what he would have used back in the day. I finished it off with Old Spice because "If Grandpa hadn't worn it, then I wouldn't exist" ;)
