why is my feather artist always sharper and smoother than my Straight Razors (and yes I am stroking properly)?

Perhaps your razors need to be honed?
You can get a western razor preeeety close to the sharpness of a Feather. I can get my kamisori even closer as the wedge profile seems to deflect less than hollow grounds and thus easier for me to get sharp.
Smoothness is really subjective, but for me natural stones seems smoother, and bringing up the sharpness with CBN seems to maintain the smoothness. YMMV greatly.
