Yeah, heat from cutting/sanding makes it split, shouldn't be anything to worry about on an existing brush. I did a cigar pen a few years ago that was great until the day after I pressed it together. Thin is NOT my friend either.

It usually cracks while you're working with it, not after it's been setting for awhile. Sorry for the scare.
