listen to your local fire/police traffic without a scanner

http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/

This is a website that lists the online streams of your local fire/ems/sheriff/police emergency radio channels. Just drill down to your state and local area to find the live stream and look to the left where it says "live audio feeds" is where the live feeds are. It's pretty interesting to listen to it while surfing the web.

I told a fiend about the website, and the fact that the maps have green areas on some of the counties confused him. He thought that only green counties has streams, but the green just means that a stream was recently added for that county. Chances are your county and area will be on here.

Nice idea. I have not listened to a scanner in years. With all the trunked systems and some of them with the crazy encryption, it is just about impossible with my old scanner. I hope to find my local departments there. Thanks again.

I remember when I was kid, our barber was always getting into some obscure hobby. One day, my dad, brother, and I went in for haircuts and he had a scanner going. I was intrigued, but never really got it. Can someone explain the appeal?
