Solder Sucker

You are correct!
A spring loaded solder sucker. You **** it by pressing down the yellow shaft. When the solder is hot and liquid, press the release button to quickly suck up the molten metal.

In Woody Allen's movie "Sleeper" they use one of these as a prop for injecting inoculations.

It that an ink ribbon for a typewriter?

Yes, it's a Coronamatic ribbon cartridge for a Smith-Corona electric typewriter. They came in nylon ribbon, which cycled through so you could use it indefinitely until the ink became too worn; or you could get a film which only allowed one pass, and when you reached the end that was it.

Also available with a white film for correcting errors. Not too convenient... you would discover your mistake, back space, change the cartridge to white, type over your mistake by striking the same keys, back space, change the cartridge back to black ink, then type again with the correct keys.
