What's new

Elite Razor - Custom and Unique Razors and Brushes

The Moonjava is also a new shape for you, I believe. Really nice handle, Bob.

happy holidays

It is a new shape. Occasionally, I will set a piece on the lathe and just start turning with no particular result in mind. I've got a box of "near misses" in my shop, but every once in a while........

I really like the feel of this handle and you can expect to see more in the near future.

Bob

Have you given the shape a name? Not in the market right now but I should be early in the new year (assuming I get through XMAS without too much damage.)

Regards

I don't have a name for the shape, but I will give it some thought. Let me know if I can build a brush for you.

I hope you have a Merry Christmas,

Bob

I have just added several new brushes to my site at http://www.eliterazor.com.

In an effort to help identify specific handle shapes for custom orders, I have begun assigning a name to each shape. In a nod to my other passion, they will all carry names of guitars. The first will be the "Taylor" (shown below) and I will be putting together a gallery on my website of the various shapes I build. I hope to have the gallery completed over the next couple of weeks.

Taylor - The handles are built from imported European resin and are, from left to right, Disco, Candy Stripe and Moonjava. They are all shown with a 24mm knot, but can be opened up to accept a 26mm knot.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and I wish you a happy New Year.

I have just added quite a few new brushes to my site at http://www.eliterazor.com, as well as added a category under Shaving Brushes that shows many of the brush shapes I regularly build. Please let me know if I can build a brush for you.

The two brushes shown below have just been listed on my site at http://www.eliterazor.com.

Amboyna Burl - Amboyna burl is found in Indonesia, especially on the Andaman group of islands. Amboyna burl is one of the rarest & most expensive woods in the world. The burly part of the log is often very small, yielding only wood in small dimensions. The color ranges from deep yellow orange to deep red and after finishing Amboyna burl reveals a depth & liveliness in color like found in no other. Amboyna burl was a popular, frequently used wood in the Jugendstil epoch in the twenties. It was also the first burl wood to be used by Rolls Royce for dashboards.

Old Growth Poplar - Poplar gained wide usage for furniture framing and drawers in the early part of the twentieth century. Today, it often is used for mouldings and millwork, boxes, pallets and shipping crates, as well as the popular choice of wood for chopsticks. Early renaissance Italian painters used Poplar as the base for their panel paintings. The Mona Lisa is painted on a Poplar panel. This piece of wood was recovered during the deconstruction of the Acworth Train Depot, which was built in 1840, and is over 175 years old.

Acworth Train Depot
The City of Acworth lies just north of Atlanta, nestled in the North Georgia foothills and was part of the Cherokee Nation until 1831. The community grew around a water station along the Western and Atlantic Railroad that was built in 1840 and grew to be the largest freight station between Savannah and Chattanooga for many years. The wood from the train depot is primarily Longleaf Pine, with several trim pieces made of Poplar.

Thank you all for the interest in custom stone pieces, I have a number of orders in process, but still have plenty of material on hand.

Below is a brush I have been working on and just completed. It is Alternate Casein with a ring of Copper Laced Onyx. The striping on the handle does not show as well in the picture as in real life. It's a pretty striking brush with the black and Copper accent. The knot is a 28mm Manchurian White set at a 52mm loft, but can go up to 54mm. The overall size of the brush is 117mm with the 52mm loft.

Thsi brush is listed and available on my site at http://www.eliterazor.com

To wrap up the weekend, I have a few more additions to my site at http://www.eliterazor.com.

The brush shown below was built as a custom order, however the purchase was not completed. It is an Alternate Ivory brush shown with a 26mm Manchurian White Fan knot at a 52mm loft. It can also be fitted with a 26mm High Mountain White 3-band knot.

From left to right: Red Coolibah Burl, Brown Mallee Burl and Thuya Burl. The brushes are shown with 26mm Manchurian White 2-band knots, but may also be fitted with a High Mountain White 3-band knot. Both knots are available in either the Fan or Bulb shape.

I have just completed a few new razor handles and they are available on my site at http://www.eliterazor.com. Each feather is painstakingly placed prior to casting in crystal clear acrylic resin. These are truly a “one of a kind” pieces as, just like snowflakes, each feather has a different pattern, color shade and character.

I just finished a pretty unique brush. The handle material is similar to the Prism, but it has light and dark blue swirled though the clear acrylic that I refer to as Blue Sky. The brush is fitted with a 26mm Manchurian White Fan set at a 51mm loft.
