Sometime after kiddo #1 was born, I tired of the point-and-shoot model delay; the "damnit, he was doing something so otherwordly cute, but by the time the shutter kicked in he was picking his nose" effect, so I literally typed in "DSLR package" and got lots of hits for the Canon Eos Rebel and similar entry-level DSLRs for around $450-500 USD. Example: http://tinyurl.com/hmmlgpc. I then researched the sellers that popped up, researched the components that were in the package, and bought one that was legit and had what I wanted. Never regretted it. Entry level suits my level of novice on photography anyway, so once my ego was told to shut up, it's worked out fine
