I like the idea, especially if we can get the venders and samplers there. Just imagine a whole suite of Sues !:biggrin1: No more "how does this smell compared with that?" First hand demonstrations (break-out sessions?) on honing and stropping. The Definative HHT (hanging hair test) magnified on the big screen  , the mind boggles. I would love to be there , I am sorry to be dull as dishwater but who cares about Vegas? I am more interested in the program and venders whereever it is. Also I like to shave but I live to hunt, so I would vote for after pheasant season is behind us, but I expect to be a small voice in the wilderness on that one.

Picking a date will be a real can of worms!! No matter what date is picked, there will be some who can't make it for valid reasons ... I don't even know when pheasant season is, so I can't vote on that one ... personally I'd love to shoot for Feb of 2008 ... but I hope everyone ends up being supportive of whatever date is eventually chosen, even if it means not everyone can go (and we're basically guaranteed that no matter what date, someone can't go!! Some attrition is inevitable, but hopefully not too much!)

When IS pheasant season (I'm guessing the fall, but ... )

Are women allowed?

How could we hold the convention without you??

Pheasant season is November/December, sometimes going into early January. Big game is Oct/November and Grouse and Antelope is Sept/Oct. So thats a big chunk of time to most but too short for us Nimrods.Given how many of us seem to love knives and guns and other traditional masculine pursuits I wonder how many others on this forum enjoy hunting, which could have some effect on attendance. SHould I have put an emoticon behind my "voice in the wilderness? " I thought it a modestly clever play on words.:001_rolle Seriously though, So much of our hobby is best done and taught "hands on" I think it a great idea.
As far as the women I liked "suite of Sues" to express my support of their presence. Ah well, I better go to sleep before I descend to writing puns.

I always respect the opinion of a bunch of well-armed hunters! :w00t:

(I always thought 'nimrod' referred to fishermen, not hunters?? I could be wrong ...)

In Genesis 10:9 it refers to Nimrod as "a mighty hunter before the LORD". I vote for Chicago simply because I am originally from the area and love it and also because I could stay with my mother and that would make it more affordable for me, but these are self-centered motivations. As far as the date, I would just want to avoid Easter and Christmas and other major holidays.

Well, there ya go. I was wrong, after all.

Still working on some dates and a facility. Hang in there. Hopefully good news to come.

Thanks,

Lynn

Yes but they have to bring soap, and booze, and their dog, and their bikes, and LOVE:biggrin:

Apologize for clogging up the thread, but I randomly bumped into this picture....

I assure you the booze and soap is in the basket with the dog, Doc Mottern :001_tt2:

Sounds like a great idea, I'd love to go. Getting in and out of Chicago can be a crap shoot in Feb. though - I was (happily!) stranded in San Diego due to snow closing O'Hare a few weeks ago. March "might" be safer from a transportation point of view.

Lynn,
A get together sounds like fun and Chicago is a good central place to do it. Flights are even cheaper to Vegas and Vegas is a whole lot more fun than Chicago. I'm new to Badger & Blade and this is my first time checking in. I've had people buy stuff from me who have been referenced from here so I thought I'd better take a look.

I think that whether we do Chicago or Vegas, we need a field trip. Oh sure, we could call ahead and let the good folks at T&H know we are coming. Or, we could...

just show up. All 300 of us.
:a29:

Either location has a T&H and a Nordstrom's (both who have been very nice to me) within walking distance. Maybe we could do the great wet shave march. Add in any other notable establishments along the way.

I see a media event here.

I certainly would like to see how the cognoscenti do it: that is the hone and strop routines. I've got the dragging of the razor across the face down pretty well, nickless even, although were the razor capable of cutting hair it may be another thing...:confused1

And it's a short hop from St. Paul, MN. I'm coming.

Good to see another Minnesotan here. I grew up in Stillwater.

Vegas would be good....but quite frankly any opportunity to mix with like minded folks over fine spirits (even with sharp object in the vicinity) would be welcome.

Sorry to be tardy to the party, but. .

Shavecon 2k7 !
I'd go. Im like 4 hours from Chicago, and Ive been wanting to get into a straight. :thumbup1:

+1

I missed the '68 Democratic Convention (too busy being "Clean for Gene"), so now's as good a time as ever. Plus, Chicago's got much better blues bands and food than Las Vegas (OK, Vegas's got more food at those casino buffets, but it's not better).

But best of all, the weather! Chicago in February, with the wind blowing in from the Great Lakes, is, well, bracing... like that alum bar we've all got in the 'fridge.
