What's new

I feel as if I've won the lottery......

Last week, on a whimsy, I bid on, and won, what was going to either be the most dented, beat up razor ever; or something very special....

It arrived this morning, and I have spent the whole day scrubbing and polishing.....

My efforts have been rewarded, this had turned out to be a hand hammered finish, STERLING SILVER 1922 New Improved Tuckaway. Serial Number 297347. Because of size restraints, I must attach photos in several different replies....

Very nice. What does the H.M.I. stand for, by the serial number? Any ideas?

I don't remember seeing that one on the bay; I probably wouldn't have bid on it even if I had.

(not experienced enough to have seen past the dents)

Congrats! Do you plan to shave with it or keep it as a collectors item?

Sadly, I must confess that I am the only person I know of, with as many razors as I have, that cannot shave with any of them.... This only because my doctors will no longer allow me to do so.

While I am a collector, I also believe that Gillettes were made to be used. Unless it is New Old Stock, and factory sealed, there is no reason not to shave with them, as long as reasonable care and respect for the razor is demonstrated.

Cheers,
Kevin
